Gas Stove Connection in Warsaw

Bought a new gas stove, moving to a different flat, or replacing an old range with a modern one — in every case, connecting it to the gas supply takes care and experience. Gas does not forgive mistakes: a leaky joint means a gas leak, and a gas leak means an explosion risk. Polish law allows you to connect a stove yourself, but if you are not confident — call a professional. We work across all of Warsaw, from Praga-Polnoc to Wlochy.

Note: this article is specifically about connecting a freestanding gas stove (range with oven) to an existing gas point. If you need a built-in gas hob fitted into a countertop — that is a different service under the “Kitchen” section.

How much does connection cost and what affects the price

The cost of connecting a gas stove depends on several factors. Is there a working gas shutoff valve? Does the flexible hose need replacing? Is an adapter or extension required? If the gas point is ready and the valve works — connection takes 30 to 60 minutes. If the valve or hose needs replacing — longer. Basic fixings and consumables are included in the price. A certified gas hose is charged separately if replacement is needed. Current prices are in the table below.

How gas stove connection works step by step

  1. You send a photo of the installation spot and the gas valve — the technician assesses the scope and tells you what materials might be needed.
  2. We agree on a time — usually same-day or next-day visit.
  3. On site, the technician shuts off the gas valve and checks it works properly. If it does not hold or is seized — replacement is recommended (replacing a valve on the gas pipe is a job for the licensed gas service PSG, not a handyman).
  4. We connect the flexible gas hose to the valve and to the stove. The hose must be certified, marked for natural gas, the right length — no tension and no unnecessary loops.
  5. We check every connection for leaks using a soapy water solution. We apply foam to each joint — if it bubbles, the connection is not tight and needs reworking.
  6. We level the stove using the adjustable feet. A crooked stove means uneven heating and a risk of pots sliding off.
  7. If the stove has electric ignition, we plug it in (standard 230V socket, earthing recommended).
  8. We light each burner and the oven — checking flame stability, absence of gas smell, and ignition operation.
  9. We check the ventilation: a room with a gas stove must have an extractor or natural ventilation. Using gas without ventilation is dangerous.

Common mistakes when connecting a gas stove (and why they are dangerous)

Warning: gas appliances are not furniture or electrics. A mistake when connecting gas can lead to a leak, carbon monoxide poisoning, or an explosion. Below are the errors we see regularly.

  • Using an old or unsuitable hose — rubber hoses without braiding crack over time, and water hoses are not designed for gas. A gas hose must be marked for natural gas (GZ) and within its expiry date.
  • Extending the hose with adapters — a gas hose must be one continuous piece, with no joiners or extensions in the middle.
  • Not testing for leaks with soapy water — you cannot reliably detect a small leak by smell alone.
  • Not shutting off the gas before starting work — this is the most serious safety violation.
  • Using PTFE tape on connections with a union nut — on joints with a gasket, tape is unnecessary and can cause harm.
  • Forgetting about ventilation — a gas stove burns oxygen and produces combustion by-products. Without ventilation, CO (carbon monoxide) builds up.
  • Pushing the stove flush against the wall and pinching the hose — the hose must not be crushed, bent at a sharp angle, or touching hot surfaces.
  • Not levelling the stove — pots slide, grease drains unevenly, and the oven bakes unevenly.

What to prepare before the technician arrives

  • Make sure the gas shutoff valve is accessible and works — it should turn easily and fully close the gas supply.
  • Clear space for the stove and access to the gas pipe — the technician needs room to work.
  • If the stove is new — unpack it and check all parts are included (feet, grates, trays, manual).
  • Check whether a gas hose is included. If not — let the technician know in advance so they can bring a suitable one.
  • Confirm the gas type: Warsaw uses natural gas (GZ-50). The stove must be set up for it, not for propane-butane.
  • If the stove has electric ignition or an electric oven — make sure there is a nearby socket.
  • Find out where the main gas shutoff valve in the flat is — in case of an emergency.
  • Check the ventilation: open the vent grille and make sure the duct is not blocked (hold a sheet of paper against it — it should stick).
  • Provide entry details: intercom code, parking information.
  • If there is no carbon monoxide (CO) detector in the flat — consider installing one. It is not legally required for gas stoves, but it is strongly recommended.

A real case from Warsaw

A client in the Zoliborz district bought a new Amica gas stove to replace one that had been in use for 15 years. The old hose was plain rubber without braiding, with visible cracks — it was surprising it had not started leaking yet. The gas valve turned with difficulty but still held. The technician disconnected the old stove, removed the old hose, and fitted a new certified hose with stainless steel braiding. He connected the new stove and levelled it. Every connection was tested with soapy water — dry, not a single bubble. Each burner was lit — the flame was even, blue, with no yellow tips. The electric ignition worked correctly. We checked the extractor — the draw was normal. We recommended the client have the gas valve replaced by PSG, since it was borderline — still holding but very stiff. The whole job took about 40 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a certified specialist to connect a gas stove?
In Poland, connecting a gas stove to an existing gas point (with a valve) does not require a licence — a handyman can do it. However, replacing a gas valve on the riser, moving a gas pipe, or creating a new gas point is work for a licensed gas service (e.g. PSG).

How do I check for a gas leak?
Apply a soapy water solution (water plus washing-up liquid) to every connection. If bubbles appear, there is a leak. Immediately shut off the gas valve, ventilate the room, and call a specialist. Never use an open flame to check.

What hose do I need for a gas stove?
A certified flexible hose marked for natural gas (GZ). The length should be enough to avoid tension but without unnecessary loops — usually 1 to 1.5 metres. Replace the hose every 10 years or sooner if damaged.

Will a propane-butane stove work in a Warsaw flat?
No. Warsaw flats use natural gas (GZ-50). The stove must be configured for that type. If the stove was bought for bottled gas, the jets need to be swapped.

Is an extractor or ventilation mandatory?
Yes. A gas stove burns oxygen and produces combustion by-products, including carbon monoxide (CO). The room must have working ventilation — natural or mechanical. Using a gas stove without ventilation is life-threatening.

What is included in the connection price?
Labour, travel within Warsaw, basic fixings. A gas hose, if replacement is needed, is charged separately. Removal of the old stove — by arrangement.

When should I call the gas service (PSG) instead of a handyman?
Call PSG when you need to: replace a gas valve on the riser, relocate a gas pipe, create a new gas point, or fix a leak on the pipe itself. A handyman connects the stove to an existing working point — nothing more.

Is a carbon monoxide detector worth installing?
Absolutely. A CO detector costs little and can save lives. It is especially important if the flat has both a gas stove and a gas boiler. Mount it on the wall at 150 cm height, at least 1.5 m from gas appliances.

Who does the work

Gas stove connections are handled by technicians experienced with gas appliances in Warsaw flats of all types — from older buildings in Praga to new developments in Wilanow. We arrive with tools, a gas wrench, and soapy water for testing. If a hose is needed, we bring a certified one. We connect the stove to a ready gas point but do not work on gas pipes or valves — that is for licensed services. To book, call or message us — we reply within an hour.
