Refrigerator Connection in Warsaw

Just had a new fridge delivered, or moving house and need to set up your existing one? It seems simple — just plug it in. But proper refrigerator connection involves levelling the unit, checking ventilation gaps, waiting the right amount of time after transport, and hooking up the water line if there is an ice maker. Especially when it is a Side-by-Side or a built-in model. We work across all of Warsaw — from Wola to Ursynow.

How much does refrigerator connection cost

The price depends on the type of fridge: a freestanding unit is quicker to set up, while a built-in model requires precise fitting into the cavity and mounting the furniture door. If the model has an ice maker or water dispenser, a water line needs to be run to a tap with a filter. Door reversal (changing the hinge side) is a separate job that takes about half an hour. Basic fixings are included in the price; consumables (hoses, filters, adapters) are charged separately. Current prices are in the table below.

How the installation works

  1. You send a photo of the installation spot and the fridge model — the technician assesses the scope and quotes a price.
  2. We agree on a visit time — usually same-day or next-day.
  3. On site, the technician checks how long it has been since transport. If the fridge was moved upright, it can be switched on after 2–3 hours; if it was tilted or laid down, at least 12 hours are needed (compressor oil must settle back).
  4. We position the fridge with proper ventilation gaps: at least 5 cm at the back, 2–3 cm on the sides, and a top clearance per the manufacturer’s instructions.
  5. We level the body using the adjustable feet. The front feet are set slightly higher than the rear ones so the door swings shut on its own.
  6. If door reversal is needed, we remove the hinges, refit them on the opposite side, and check that the gasket seals properly.
  7. We connect the water line to the ice maker or dispenser (if present): a tee on the cold-water supply, a filter, and a copper or plastic tube running to the fridge.
  8. We switch on, set the temperature per the manufacturer’s recommendation (typically +4 °C in the fridge compartment, -18 °C in the freezer), and verify compressor operation, lighting, and ice maker function.

Common mistakes when installing a refrigerator

  • Switching on right after delivery — the compressor oil has not settled, which can cause a breakdown.
  • Pushing the fridge flush against the wall — no ventilation, the condenser overheats, the unit runs constantly and uses more energy.
  • Not levelling the body — the door does not close tightly, the gasket does not seal, warm air gets inside.
  • Placing it next to a radiator or stove — the heat source forces the compressor to run non-stop.
  • Plugging into an extension lead or multi-plug — the fridge should run from a dedicated socket, ideally earthed and through a surge protector.
  • Not checking the door gasket — if it was deformed during transport, the fridge will not hold temperature.
  • Loading the shelves with food straight after switching on — the fridge needs 6–12 hours to reach its operating temperature.
  • Not connecting the water line to the ice maker — ice is not produced, and the owner assumes the feature is broken.

What to prepare before the technician arrives

  • Measure the cavity or installation spot: width, depth, height. Compare with the fridge dimensions in the manual.
  • Clear the path from the front door to the kitchen — an internal door may need to come off for carrying.
  • Check the socket: it should be near the installation spot (fridge cables are usually 1.5–2 m), with earthing.
  • If the fridge has an ice maker, make sure there is a cold-water tap nearby or let the technician know in advance.
  • Remove all transit stickers, polystyrene, and protective film from the body and shelves.
  • Have the manual ready — it lists the required clearances and recommended temperatures.
  • If door reversal is needed, mention it when booking so the technician brings the right tools.
  • Provide entry details: intercom code, parking information.

A real case from Warsaw

A client in the Zoliborz district bought a Samsung Side-by-Side fridge with an ice maker and water dispenser. The delivery service dropped it off, but connection was not included — the couriers left the box in the hallway. Our technician arrived and carried the fridge into the kitchen (the doorway was wide enough, but the fridge doors had to be removed for carrying). We positioned it with a 7 cm gap at the back and 3 cm on the sides. The front feet were set slightly higher so the doors close on their own. We ran the water line: a tee under the sink, a filter, and a plastic tube along the wall to the fridge. We let it stand for 4 hours (it was transported upright), switched it on, and set the temperature. The next day the client confirmed the ice maker was working and the temperature was stable. The job took about an hour and a half, excluding the standing time.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I wait after transport before switching on?
If the fridge was moved upright — 2–4 hours. If it was tilted or transported on its side — at least 12 hours. This allows the compressor oil to return to its working area.

Is levelling really necessary?
Yes. An unlevel fridge vibrates, the door does not seal properly, and the gasket wears out faster. The front feet are set slightly higher than the rear — this way the door closes by itself.

Can I change the door opening side?
On most models, yes. It is a standard procedure: the hinges are removed, refitted on the opposite side, and the gasket seal is checked.

Does a fridge need a surge protector?
We recommend it. Voltage spikes can damage the electronics, especially in models with an inverter compressor and touch controls.

Do you connect built-in fridges?
Yes. A built-in model needs precise fitting into the cavity, mounting the furniture door, and ventilation checks. Let us know the model when booking.

What is included in the connection price?
Labour, travel within Warsaw, basic fixings. Extra materials (water hose, filter, tee fitting) are charged separately as needed.

Can a water line be connected to any fridge?
Only if the model has an ice maker or water dispenser. These are usually Side-by-Side and French Door fridges. A cold-water outlet nearby is required.

What clearances should I leave around the fridge?
At least 5 cm at the back for condenser ventilation, 2–3 cm on the sides. Above — per the manual, usually 5–10 cm. Without clearances the fridge overheats.
