Kitchen Countertop Installation in Warsaw — fitting, cutting, joining

Kitchen Countertop Installation in Warsaw — fitting, cutting, joining

The countertop is the surface that takes the most punishment in any kitchen. Hot pans, water splashing near the sink, constant chopping — if it is installed incorrectly, within a few months the joints start swelling or the worktop pulls away from the wall. We install countertops made from laminate, solid wood and composite materials across Warsaw — from Ursynow to Zoliborz. If the kitchen is already assembled and the countertop needs replacing or trimming to fit, that is also what we do.

How much does it cost and what affects the price

Installation cost depends on the countertop length, number of cut-outs (sink, hob), material and how much trimming is needed to match the walls. An L-shaped kitchen with a joint costs more than a straight run because it requires precise cutting and sealing of the connection. A wall strip (listwa przyscienna), edge finishing and plinth installation all affect the final amount. Current prices for all kitchen services are in the table below.

How the on-site work goes

  1. You send photos of the kitchen and dimensions (or the technician measures on site).
  2. We confirm the countertop material, number of cut-outs and whether there are corner joints.
  3. The technician arrives with tools: circular saw, router, jigsaw and templates.
  4. The old countertop is removed (if applicable) and the cabinet level is checked.
  5. The new countertop is trimmed to fit — adjusted to the walls, cut-outs made for the sink and hob.
  6. Joints are sealed with silicone and a joining strip is fitted (for L-shaped kitchens).
  7. The countertop is secured to the cabinet frames from below with screws and brackets. The wall plinth is fitted.

Common customer mistakes (and how to avoid them)

  • Ordering a countertop with no extra length — trimming on site is possible, but extending is not.
  • Not accounting for wall thickness and corner angles — the countertop does not sit flush, leaving 5-10 mm gaps.
  • Cutting the sink opening too close to the edge — the laminate cracks under load.
  • Not sealing the edges and joints — water gets inside and the chipboard swells.
  • Installing the countertop before levelling the cabinets — the surface ends up uneven.
  • Fixing the countertop with glue instead of mechanical fasteners — the cabinet has to be destroyed when replacing it.
  • Forgetting the wall plinth — crumbs and water get behind the countertop, leading to mould.

What to prepare before the technician arrives

  • Kitchen cabinets must be assembled and levelled.
  • The countertop must be on site (delivered to the apartment).
  • The sink and hob should be available for accurate cut-out marking.
  • Make sure there is access to water supply and drainage (if the sink is being fitted during the same visit).
  • Clear the work area — remove boxes, appliances and food from the floor.
  • Prepare a power socket for tools.
  • If the kitchen is L-shaped — confirm the joint type (euro-cut, joining strip, or 45-degree mitre).
  • Let the technician know the countertop thickness (28 mm or 38 mm) — this determines the fixings.
  • Provide access details: intercom code, floor, lift (countertops are long and may not fit in the lift).

A real case from Warsaw

A client in the Wola district ordered an L-shaped IKEA kitchen and bought a laminate countertop — 3 metres plus 1.6 metres. The problem was that the walls in the older building were uneven and the corner angle was about 87 degrees instead of 90. The technician trimmed both pieces along the wall contour with a circular saw and finished with a jigsaw. The joint was made using a euro-cut with silicone sealing and a bolt connector underneath. He cut openings for the sink and hob, finished the edges with aluminium trim and fitted the wall plinth. The job took about 4 hours. Two weeks later the client sent a photo — the joint was invisible, the plinth sat tight, no gaps anywhere. The lesson: on-site measurements are everything — catalogue dimensions rarely match reality.

Frequently asked questions

Can the countertop be installed if the cabinets are not yet assembled?
No, the cabinets must be assembled and levelled first. The countertop sits on top and is fixed from below.

Do you supply the countertop?
No, the client purchases the countertop. We can recommend a store and suitable material.

How many cut-outs are included in the price?
Sink and hob cut-outs are charged separately. Exact prices are in the table above.

What sealant is best to use?
For joints and edges — kitchen-grade silicone (sanitary, clear or colour-matched). Standard acrylic sealant is not suitable as it is not waterproof.

Euro-cut or joining strip — which is better?
A euro-cut looks neater — the joint is almost invisible. A strip is simpler and cheaper but leaves a visible aluminium line. The choice depends on budget and material.

Can the countertop be replaced without removing the sink?
Usually not — the sink has to come out so a new opening can be cut. The exception is if the cut-out matches exactly.

Are fixings included in the price?
Yes, standard fixings (screws, brackets, bolts) are included. The wall plinth and sealant are charged separately if not already on site.
