A freestanding wardrobe is not a simple stool: heavy chipboard panels, shelves, a hanging rail, hinges with three-way adjustment. One wrong move — and you get wonky doors or a stripped thread instead of saving money. We assemble wardrobes all over Warsaw: we bring our own tools, work by the manufacturer’s instructions, and leave the area clean. How much does wardrobe assembly cost and what affects the price
The price is based on the wardrobe size, how many sections it has, and the type of doors. A two-door model with a few shelves is one thing; a three-metre setup with pull-out drawers, mirrors, and internal lighting is a different job altogether. The cost is affected by: the number of drawers (each has its own mechanism), hinge type (standard or soft-close), and whether the unit needs fixing to the wall. How the on-site assembly works
- You send a photo of the box or the model name — the technician assesses the scope and gives you a rough timeframe.
- We set a convenient date. In many cases, we can come the same day or the next.
- The technician arrives with his own tools: cordless drill with a bit set, spirit level, wood and masonry drill bits, hammer, and a square.
- We open the boxes and check each part and fitting against the list. If anything is missing, we point it out right away.
- The carcase is put together flat on the floor, then lifted upright. For wardrobes taller than 180 cm we work in pairs or use bracing supports.
- Doors are fitted and the hinges are adjusted in three planes — so the gaps are even and the doors shut smoothly.
- If the wardrobe is taller than 160 cm, we fasten it to the wall with a safety bracket or strap. We test stability and clear away the packaging.
Common mistakes when assembling a wardrobe yourself
- Assembling the carcase upright — the panels are heavy; without a helper the wardrobe can tip over and damage the floor or wall. The right method is to build it flat, then lift it.
- Driving confirmat screws at full drill speed — this tears out the thread in chipboard. The final turns should be done by hand or on low speed.
- Skipping a diagonal check on the carcase before fitting the back panel — the wardrobe ends up out of square and the doors cannot be adjusted properly.
- Confusing the left and right side panels — mirror-image parts with hinge holes are easy to mix up; putting it right means taking apart half the unit.
- Leaving out wall mounting — a two-metre wardrobe filled with clothes can weigh more than 80 kg, and opening the doors shifts the centre of gravity.
- Knocking in wooden dowels without glue — after some time the structure starts to loosen and wobble.
- Setting the wardrobe on an uneven floor without adjusting the feet — bottom drawers stick and doors sit crooked.
- Nailing on the HDF back panel before squaring the carcase — once that is done, the geometry can no longer be corrected.
What to prepare before the technician arrives
- Make sure the wardrobe boxes are already inside the apartment (carrying them upstairs is a separate service).
- Clear the assembly area — you need at least 2.5 x 3 metres of free space.
- Check that everything is complete against the receipt or manual — missing or damaged parts are best spotted before the visit.
- Decide exactly where the wardrobe will stand — moving a fully assembled 60 kg+ wardrobe is not part of the assembly price.
- Find out what wall is behind the wardrobe (concrete, brick, plasterboard) — that decides which fixings are needed.
- Make sure there is access to a power socket — the drill needs charging.
- Remove rugs and breakable items from the work area — chipboard panels are heavy and easy to drop.
- Keep pets in another room — small fittings end up scattered across the floor.
- Provide the intercom code and parking information.
- For large wardrobes (3+ doors), tell us in advance so the technician can bring a helper.
A real case from Warsaw
A client in the Wola district booked assembly of a three-door BRW wardrobe, 220 cm tall, with an overhead compartment, a mirror on the centre door, and four pull-out drawers at the bottom. Two boxes weighing 70 kg each were already in the bedroom. We began with a check: all 247 parts were there, hardware sorted into labelled bags. The carcase was assembled horizontally on the floor — at that height, that was the only sensible way. The back panel came in two HDF sheets; we fixed them only after measuring the diagonals (under 2 mm difference — acceptable). Soft pads protected the laminate flooring when we lifted the unit. The wall turned out to be hollow brick — the standard screws from the kit were replaced with expansion plugs. The mirror on the centre door added extra weight, so we reinforced the hinges on that section. Each drawer was adjusted separately after installation: smooth movement, soft-close working exactly as it should. The job took about four hours. Later the client said he would have spent the whole weekend doing it himself — with no certainty the doors would close evenly.

Do I need to be at home?
Best at the start, to show where the wardrobe is going and confirm the details. After that the technician can work on his own.
The wardrobe is very heavy — can one person manage it?
Wardrobes up to 200 cm with two doors — yes. For larger models (3+ doors, 220+ cm), we bring a second person. Just mention it when booking.
Can the wardrobe be moved after assembly?
Furniture rearrangement is a separate service. Sliding a fully assembled wardrobe across laminate without protective pads will scratch the floor.
What happens if a part is defective?
We document the problem with photos. You contact the retailer for a replacement. Once the new part arrives, we return and complete the job.
Do you work on weekends?
Yes, Saturdays and Sundays are normal working days for us. Book ahead — weekends fill up fast.
