What to know about Jysk furniture
Jysk comes from Denmark; in Poland it’s a chain of home stores. Most of its furniture is flat-packed and meant to be built at home. Cabinets are laminated chipboard, while beds and chairs often sit on metal or wooden frames. The manuals are clear, but the tool in the box is the most basic one, and you end up with dozens of hex-key screws.
With beds, don’t rush the slats. The slatted base goes in once the frame stands level and every corner bracket is tight. Otherwise slats pop out of their holders and the bed creaks from the first night.
Wall shelves and shelving fixed to the wall need plugs that suit your wall. Concrete, brick and plasterboard each take different fixings, and what came in the box doesn’t always fit. A tall open shelving unit gets anchored to the wall regardless.

Where people usually slip up
- Every screw tightened fully straight away. The frame can’t be squared up and one leg hangs in the air.
- Slats put in upside down. Curved slats should bow upwards.
- Shelving left unanchored because “it’s heavy anyway”. A heavy unit is more dangerous when it tips.
- A shelf hung by eye. A week later things roll off it.
- Garden furniture built without the spacers. Metal on metal squeaks and scratches.
Before the fitter arrives
- Make a list: what needs building, what needs hanging, what needs fixing to the wall.
- Put the boxes in the rooms where each piece will stand.
- Mark the shelf positions on the wall with a pencil or masking tape.
- Think about cables in the wall where things will be fixed. If you’re unsure, tell the fitter in advance.
One order for the lot

The app asks for anything missing, and fitters send bids priced for the whole job. Compare prices and reviews and choose one. After that you see his phone number and he sees your address.
You pay the fitter directly and he issues the invoice. Fixings for the assembly are normally included; special plugs for an awkward wall, carrying things up and taking cardboard away are extra. The fitter answers for what he built and hung, and fixes his own mistakes. Faulty parts, or a wall that turns out hollow or crumbly, are beyond his control.
