I was six, and I had a hammer.
Today I write about what the work costs.
Every nail in the house ended up in a wall, a door or a cupboard. After that it calmed down: woodwork classes, a technical college on the electrical side, staircases to measure, four years on furniture and worktops. In 2022 I came to Warsaw with a case of tools and one cordless driver.

How it added up.
It started with a hammer, and every job after that taught something.

Age six
A hammer
My first tool. The nails went into the walls, the doors and the furniture.
-
School
Wood
Out of the whole timetable, woodwork was the part that counted.
-
College
Electrics
A technical college, electrical side. A piece of paper that earned its keep later.
-
Stairs
First work to measure
Wooden staircases. Nothing gets corrected here: it fits, or it goes on the fire.
-
Four years
Furniture and worktops
Cabinet furniture and composite stone worktops. The same millimetres every day.
-
At home
All of it by hand
Fitting, assembly, reupholstering, laminate, connections, repairs. I called nobody.

2022
Warsaw
I arrived at the start of the war. A case of hand tools and a driver meant for sewing machines — that was the whole start.

I bought the tools one at a time. Now I find tradespeople and write this work up here.
I write about what I fitted myself.
The kitchen in these frames is in my own flat. The slat wall, the tiling and the stripping out are mine too. My photos, not stock.

Why run a blog if the company never turns up itself?
Because before anyone walks into your flat, you want to know what will happen and how long it takes. One booking form does not answer that.

Prices come from the price list
No figures are hard-coded into the text. There is a table that pulls the current ranges straight from the catalogue.
I don’t vouch for someone else’s work
The tradesperson comes on their own account and issues the invoice themselves. I say plainly where our part ends.
The photos are mine
Frames from my own kitchen and from jobs I did myself. If I didn’t do it myself, I don’t show it.
I also say when not to call anyone
Some jobs you close yourself in fifteen minutes. Then that’s what I write, instead of pushing you to the form.
What I write about most.
The order is not my choice. This is what the list of jobs looks like when people actually get in touch.
