What the job covers
A new appliance arrives in a box, and the rest depends on what is waiting in the kitchen or bathroom. A washing machine needs a valve and a waste, a built-in dishwasher needs a door panel cut to fit, and an induction hob needs its own circuit. The tradesperson connects it, checks for leaks and runs the first cycle. Repairing a broken appliance is a different service; this page is about installation and connection.

- Integrated dishwasher installation with door panel

Which appliance needs what
Every appliance has its own requirements. Connecting a washing machine means water, a waste and an earthed socket, plus taking out the transit bolts. A dishwasher also needs a tee with a valve on the water supply and a spigot on the sink trap. Connecting an induction hob needs a dedicated circuit and the terminal links set correctly for a single-phase or three-phase kitchen supply.
A gas cooker is only ever connected by someone with gas qualifications, who leak-tests it afterwards. There is more on this on the gas cooker connection page. A hot water heater is a separate service again: water heater installation with a safety valve and a solid wall fixing.
Integrated appliances
An integrated dishwasher, oven or fridge needs more than a connection: an exact fit in the cabinet, a furniture door mounted on hinges or runners, and levelling. On a dishwasher the door has to be set so it does not hit the plinth when opened. An oven needs the ventilation gaps the manual specifies, or it will overheat.
What to prepare
The installation manual or the appliance model, photos of where it will go showing the valves, waste and socket, and for a hob also photos of the connection box and consumer unit. If a connection is missing, the handyman adds it to the offer as a separate item.
What affects the price
Installation is usually priced per appliance. The amount in the offer depends on:
- integration: hanging the door panel on a dishwasher or fridge is extra work
- whether the valve, waste and socket are already in place
- induction: whether there is a dedicated circuit with the right supply
- removing and carrying out the old appliance
- small materials: a tee, hoses, a trap with a spigot
What to watch out for
Leaving the transit bolts in
On the first spin the washing machine walks across the bathroom and wrecks its bearings. The bolts come out before the first run and are kept for the next move.
An induction hob on a normal socket
An induction hob needs its own circuit with its own breaker. If there is none, an electrician comes first, then the installation. This is not a DIY job.
A drain hose with no loop
A hose lying too low lets water run back into the dishwasher or washing machine. A loop and the right height at the waste solve it.
A gas cooker connected by "a friend"
Gas is connected only by a tradesperson with gas qualifications (uprawnienia gazowe) and a leak test. Mention it in the job and ask about the qualifications before you pick an offer.

Can an induction hob run on 230 V?
It depends on the hob and the wiring. Some hobs are connected single-phase, others on two or three phases (400 V). The hob manual and what is in the connection box decide, and the tradesperson checks before connecting.
How much does dishwasher installation cost?

Will the handyman take the old appliance away?
Carrying out and disposal are an extra service. Shops often collect the old appliance when delivering the new one.
How long does connecting an integrated dishwasher take?
Usually one to two hours including fitting the door. A little longer if a tee needs adding or the trap replacing.
