Tumble dryer connection

A tumble dryer usually stands next to the washing machine or on top of it in a stack. How it connects depends on the type: condenser and heat-pump dryers collect water in a tank or drain it to the waste pipe, while a vented dryer needs a hose to the outside. Connecting one covers positioning, drain or vent, power and a test.

The price is per job. Stacking it on a washing machine needs a stacking kit.

What connection covers

• positioning and levelling the dryer;
• stacking it on the washer with a stacking kit, if wanted;
• running the drain hose to the trap or leaving the tank in use;
• a vent hose for a vented model;
• plugging in and a test cycle.

Stacking on a washer

A dryer goes on a washing machine only with a stacking kit made for that pair, ideally from the same maker. Without it the dryer can slide off during a spin. Kits often include a pull-out shelf for the laundry basket.

What to prepare

A spot for the dryer with access to a socket, and a stacking kit if it goes on the washer. Give the type in the request, condenser, heat pump or vented, and whether it will be stacked. For a vented model, say where the hose can go out.
