Built-in fridge connection: what the job involves
An integrated fridge hides in a tall kitchen unit behind a furniture door. For that door to move with the fridge door and sit flush, it has to be fixed precisely on sliders or hinges. Installing an integrated fridge covers sliding it into the unit, fixing it to the carcass, fitting the door and adjusting it.
The price is per job. The door fixing system and whether the unit is ready affect the time.
What installation covers
- checking the housing dimensions and ventilation openings;
- sliding the fridge in and fixing it to the cabinet sides;
- fitting the furniture door on sliders or hinges;
- aligning the door with the neighbouring units;
- plugging in and starting up.
Ventilation in a housing
A fridge gives off heat to the back and top. If the unit has no vent gap in the plinth and above the fridge, the compressor runs non-stop, uses more power and wears out sooner. The manual gives the required gaps, and the tradesperson checks them before fitting.
What to prepare
A finished tall unit, the furniture door and the fridge installation manual with template. The socket should be beside the unit, not directly behind the fridge. Give the model in the request and say if an old one is being replaced.
Common questions
Can an ordinary fridge be built in?
Not worth it. A freestanding fridge lacks the ventilation and door fixings.
What is a sliding door fixing?
A system where the furniture door slides along the fridge door. It is easier to adjust than hinges.
How long does it take?
Usually one to a few hours, depending on the door fixing.
