Washbasin Installation in Warsaw — Fast, Reliable, Leak-Free

Washbasin Installation in Warsaw — Fast, Reliable, Leak-Free

New washbasin sitting in its box while the old one is barely hanging on? Or renovating your bathroom and need a basin fitted from scratch? Washbasin installation seems straightforward until you start: water supply connections, trap, sealing, wall mounting. One mistake and you have a puddle on the floor within a week. We install washbasins across Warsaw: we bring our tools, connect to the water supply and drainage, and check every joint for leaks. If needed, we will replace the trap, fit a mixer tap, or install a vanity unit.

How much does washbasin installation cost

The cost depends on the basin type and connection complexity. A wall-hung basin without a cabinet is quicker and simpler. A basin on a vanity unit means assembling furniture, adjusting cutouts, and connecting everything inside. A countertop-mounted basin is the most involved option. Price is also affected by whether supply hoses need replacing, whether a new trap is required, and whether the connection point needs moving. Fixings and sealant are included. See current prices in the table below.

How the installation works

  1. We shut off the water and drain the pipes.
  2. If there is an old basin, we remove it: disconnect the trap and tap, undo the wall fixings.
  3. We mark the position for the new basin using a spirit level. Standard height is 85 cm from the floor, adjusted to suit the household.
  4. We drill into the wall, fit wall plugs and threaded rods (or brackets, depending on the model).
  5. The basin is hung, checked for level, and the fixings tightened.
  6. We install the trap and connect it to the drain. All joints use rubber gaskets plus sealant.
  7. The mixer tap is fitted (if supplied) and flexible hoses connected to the water supply.
  8. We turn the water back on and check every connection for leaks. Wipe down and tidy up.

Common mistakes when installing a washbasin

  • Not scanning the wall before drilling — hitting a pipe or cable. We always use a detector before making any holes.
  • Mounting the basin on plugs alone without threaded rods — the basin works loose over time, especially heavy ceramic models.
  • Over-tightening ceramic against the wall — it cracks. Ceramic must be drawn up gently with rubber washers.
  • Assembling the trap without gaskets or at an angle — it starts dripping within days.
  • Forgetting to check the drain gradient — water sits in the bowl and you get a sewer smell.
  • Reusing old flexible hoses — the rubber lining cracks with age, creating a leak risk.
  • Not sealing the basin-to-wall joint — water runs behind the basin and soaks the wall.

What to prepare before the technician arrives

  • The new basin should be in the flat, unpacked and checked for chips.
  • If you have a tap, have it ready too (with hoses included).
  • Ensure access to the shut-off valves — the technician will need to turn off the water.
  • Check the wall type (concrete, brick, plasterboard) — this determines the fixings.
  • If it is plasterboard, a backing support or special fixings are needed (let us know in advance).
  • Clear everything from under the basin area and ensure free access to the pipes.
  • Provide the intercom code and parking information.

Case study: washbasin installation in Ursynow

A client bought a wall-hung Cersanit basin for a guest bathroom. The wall was hollow brick and the supplied plugs would not hold. We switched to 10×80 expansion anchors — rock solid. The trap from the kit had a short outlet — the drain pipe was recessed deeper than usual. We fitted a flexible connector with an adapter. The client chose a tap with a pop-up waste — we connected it and adjusted the action. The whole job took about an hour and a half. We pressure-tested every joint — bone dry. The client called a week later to confirm everything was still perfect.

Frequently asked questions

What basins do you install?
Any type: wall-hung, pedestal, vanity-mounted, countertop-inset. Cersanit, Roca, Grohe, IKEA, Deante — the brand does not matter.

Do I need to buy a trap and hoses separately?
Usually the trap comes with the basin and hoses come with the tap. If not, we will source and fit them — material cost is separate.

Can you install a basin on plasterboard?
Yes, if there is a backing support (timber or metal profile behind the board). Without one, we use specialist plasterboard fixings, but for heavy ceramics this is not ideal.

How long does installation take?
A simple wall-hung basin — 1 to 1.5 hours. With a vanity unit — 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Countertop-inset — 2 to 3 hours.

Is removal of the old basin included?
Removal is charged separately, but it is usually inexpensive — depends on the complexity.

Washbasin Installation in Warsaw

Washbasin Installation in Warsaw

A washbasin is one of the most frequently used items in any bathroom. Correct installation ensures not only daily convenience but also protection against leaks. A poorly mounted or awkwardly connected basin quickly works loose, starts dripping, and damages the wall finish. HandyMan technicians install washbasins in every district of Warsaw — securely, neatly, and with a full leak test. Drop us a message or call, and we will come at a time that suits you.

How much does it cost and what affects the price

The cost of washbasin installation starts from 400 PLN for labour. The price covers fixing the basin to the wall or vanity unit, connecting the trap to the waste pipe, connecting the mixer tap to the hot and cold supply, and sealing all joints. Materials are charged separately — the trap, tap, flexible hoses, fixings, and sealant are purchased by the client or ordered through us at retail price. Standard consumables are included.

The price increases if wall chasing is needed, connection points need moving, or a section of pipework needs replacing. Disposal of packaging and the old basin is charged as an extra. The technician will give you an exact price after inspection — for a preliminary estimate, send a photo of the bathroom via messenger.

How the work is carried out on site

1. Inspection and marking up. The technician arrives, checks the wall for strength, and marks the fixing points based on the required height and pipework layout.

2. Drilling and fitting fixings. We drill holes in the wall and install wall plugs and threaded studs. For hollow walls we use specialist cavity anchors.

3. Hanging the basin. The basin is placed on the fixings, levelled, and secured with nuts. We check the mounting is solid.

4. Fitting the tap. The mixer tap is installed on the basin, and flexible hoses are connected to the hot and cold supply.

5. Connecting the trap. The trap is assembled, fitted, and connected to the waste outlet. All joints are checked for tightness.

6. Sealing. Sanitary silicone is applied along the line where the basin meets the wall to prevent water ingress.

7. Testing and clean-up. We turn on the water, test the tap and drain, and check for any leaks. The work area is cleaned up.

Common mistakes clients make (and how to avoid them)

1. Fixing to a weak wall without reinforcement. Plasterboard without structural backing cannot support the weight of a basin plus water. Check the wall material in advance and let the technician know.

2. Wrong installation height. The standard height for the top edge of a basin is 85 cm from the floor. If there are children or people with reduced mobility in the household, discuss the height beforehand.

3. Skimping on the trap. A cheap trap clogs quickly and starts leaking. Choose models with a design that can be taken apart for easy cleaning.

4. Using old flexible hoses. Flexible supply hoses have a limited service life. When fitting a new basin, we recommend replacing the hoses as well.

5. No sealant at the wall. Without silicone, water enters the gap between basin and wall, causing mould and finish damage.

6. Wrong basin size. The basin must match the width of the vanity unit or recess. Measure the space before buying.

7. Over-tightening fixings. Excessive nut tightening can crack the ceramic. Tighten evenly and carefully.

What to prepare before the technician arrives

1. Make sure the basin and fittings have been delivered to the flat.

2. Clear the bathroom — remove mats, towels, and clutter.

3. Check you have the tap, trap, flexible hoses, and fixings.

4. Buy sanitary silicone if the technician has recommended it.

5. Know where the water shut-off valve is located.

6. If the wall is plasterboard, let us know in advance.

7. Warn neighbours about possible drilling noise.

8. Have a free power socket ready for tools.

9. If you plan a mirror or cabinet above the basin, discuss this beforehand.

10. Tell the technician your preferred installation height by phone before the visit.

A real case from Warsaw

Recently a flat owner in the Żoliborz district came to us with a new wall-hung basin he wanted fitted in place of his old pedestal sink. The difficulty was that the water and waste connection points were positioned for a floor-standing design — too low for a wall-hung model. Our technician relocated the waste outlet to the correct height, replaced a section of water pipe, and fitted concealed supply connections. The basin was mounted on heavy-duty anchors, and a new chrome trap and single-lever mixer were connected. Every joint was sealed with sanitary silicone. After a leak test the work was signed off. Three weeks later the client confirmed everything was working perfectly. The installation took about four hours.

Frequently asked questions

How long does washbasin installation take?
On average 2–4 hours. If pipework needs relocating, it can take 5–6 hours.

Can a wall-hung basin be fitted on a plasterboard wall?
Yes, provided there is structural backing or specialist cavity anchors are used. The technician will assess feasibility on site.

Is tap installation included in the price?
Yes, fitting the tap onto the basin is included in the base service price.

Should the trap be replaced when changing the basin?
We recommend fitting a new trap — the old one may not fit and is likely worn.

Do you remove the old basin?
Removal of the old basin can be done for an additional charge. Disposal is by arrangement.

Do you work at weekends?
Yes, we work every day across Warsaw.

What if a hidden problem is found during installation?
The technician will inform you, suggest a solution, and agree any additional work. Nothing is done without your approval.
