A wavy ceiling stands out more than uneven walls — light from a pendant lamp shows every hump, every board joint, every crack. In Warsaw’s concrete-panel blocks — especially in Mokotów and Wola — ceiling slabs often come together with a 3–5 mm offset. In newer buildings, settlement cracks show up quite often. All of that is sorted with filler and sanding before painting.

How much does it cost and what affects the price

Up-to-date prices are listed in the table below. The final amount depends on the ceiling size, how many defects there are, and how badly the surface is out of level. If the ceiling is reasonably even with just a few cracks — one layer of finishing filler will do. If the steps are more than 5 mm, base filler is needed, plus jointing tape over the seams, and two to three coats with sanding. Tools and sandpaper are included. How the on-site work goes

1. The technician checks the ceiling under angled light — spotting all cracks, height differences, and water marks.
2. Any loose old coating is scraped away.
3. Cracks are cut open and strengthened with jointing tape.
4. Base filler is put on the damaged areas.
5. Once dry — sanding, then a finishing coat over the whole ceiling.
6. Final sanding with fine-grit paper. Then checked once more under angled light.
7. The ceiling is primed and left ready for painting.

Common customer mistakes (and how to avoid them)

• Painting the ceiling without levelling first — every flaw throws a shadow under the light fitting.
• Filling a crack without reinforcing tape — after a month it shows up again in the very same place.
• Putting on a thick coat of filler in one pass — on a ceiling this matters, a heavy layer drops off.
• Sanding without protection — dust from above goes straight into your face and lungs.
• Missing the primer before painting — the paint soaks in unevenly and leaves blotches.

What to prepare before the technician arrives

• Take as much as possible out of the room — sanding dust from a ceiling spreads everywhere.
• Cover furniture and floors with sheeting if items cannot be moved out.
• Remove the light fitting or shade — the technician needs access to the full surface.
• Make sure there is good lighting — a lamp on a stand for angled light is essential.
• Look for any signs of a leak — if the ceiling is damp, it cannot be filled.
• If the ceiling is high — tell the technician in advance, a taller ladder may be required.
• Open the windows or turn on ventilation — this helps with drying and dust removal.

How long does ceiling filler take to dry?

2–4 hours between coats. Full drying before painting — at least 12 hours.

Can you fill over whitewash?

Whitewash has to be removed fully. Filler will not stick to a whitewashed surface.

What if the ceiling has water stains?

First, fix the source of the leak. Let the ceiling dry out properly. Then use a stain-blocking primer before filling.

Do you level bathroom ceilings?
