Interior Door Installation in Warsaw — Fitting with Frame and Hardware
24.02.2026Interior Door Installation in Warsaw — Fitting with Frame and Hardware
New interior doors change a flat more than you might expect: better sound insulation, rooms that actually close properly, no more draughts or misaligned frames. We fit interior doors across Warsaw — from Mokotow to Bielany — including frame assembly, hardware fitting and finishing touches. We work on full renovations and straightforward replacements alike. Wonky walls, non-standard openings, doors that need trimming for a new floor — we handle it all.
How much does it cost and what affects the price

The cost of fitting an interior door depends on several factors: the type of door (hinged, sliding, concealed frame), the condition of the opening, whether the old door needs removing, and whether the leaf needs trimming or the opening widening. Fixings and expanding foam are included in the labour cost. The doors themselves, the frame and the hardware are purchased by the client. Removal of building waste and carrying heavy materials upstairs are charged separately. You can find current prices for all our door and window services in the table below.

How the installation works step by step

Door fitting is precision work where every millimetre counts. Here is how it looks in practice:
- You describe the job. Send photos of the opening, provide dimensions and the door model. The technician assesses the scope and gives a ballpark figure.
- Scheduling. We usually come the same day or the next. We bring a full tool kit: hammer drill, mitre saw, hinge router, spirit level, cordless driver.
- Removing the old door. We take off the leaf and carefully dismantle the old frame. If the wall is damaged, we prepare the opening: remove old foam residue, straighten the reveals.
- Assembling and fitting the frame. We assemble the door frame, set it plumb and level in the opening, secure it with wedges and apply foam. If the opening is wider than the frame, we use extension strips.
- Hanging the leaf and fitting hardware. We hang the door, rout recesses for hinges and the latch, and install handles. We check the swing is smooth and there is no binding.
- Fitting architraves and extension strips. Architraves are mitred at 45 degrees and fixed with adhesive or headless pins. Where walls are uneven, we scribe and adjust on site.
- Final check and clean-up. The door must open and close without effort, the latch must engage cleanly. We clear away shavings, offcuts and packaging.
Common mistakes when fitting doors

Over the years we have seen dozens of problems caused by DIY fitting or work done by unqualified people. Here are the most frequent ones:
- Incorrect opening measurement. Buying a door without measuring accurately — the leaf either does not fit or leaves a finger-width gap. Measure after the finished floor is laid.
- Frame not set plumb. Even 2-3 mm out of true means the door will not close properly. Over time it starts scraping the floor or catching on the frame.
- Too much expanding foam. Foam expands and bows the frame inwards. You need spacer bars between the jambs and foam applied in thin layers in several passes.
- Skimping on hardware. Cheap handles and hinges work loose within six months. The price difference is small, but replacing them means new holes in the leaf.
- Trimming the leaf without a guide rail. When a door needs shortening for a new floor, people cut by eye and the result is uneven. You need a straight edge and the right blade on the circular saw.
- Fitting before wet trades are finished. Doors installed before plaster or screed has dried absorb moisture and swell. This is especially critical for veneered and laminated doors.
- Forgetting extension strips. The wall is thicker than the frame, but no extension strips were ordered. You end up waiting for delivery and calling the fitter back.
- Not checking the opening direction. The door should open towards the larger room and not block a light switch or furniture. This needs to be decided before purchase.
What to prepare before the technician arrives

To make sure the fitting goes smoothly and without delays, have the following ready:
- Door leaf, frame, architraves and hardware — everything should be on site when the technician arrives.
- Check the contents: hinges, handles, latch, strike plate. Something is often missing from the box.
- If extension strips are needed — measure the wall thickness and order them in advance.
- Clear the opening and the area around it — move furniture, remove mats and threshold strips.
- If the flat has a fresh renovation — let the technician know so walls and floors can be sheeted.
- Have a power socket available within 5 metres of the opening for power tools.
- Decide on the opening direction — inward or outward, left-hand or right-hand.
- If the floor has not been laid yet — tell the technician the thickness of the planned covering so the gap can be set correctly.
- Provide the entry code, floor number and lift information — especially for long, heavy doors.
- If the old door needs removing — decide beforehand what to do with it. Waste removal is a separate service.
A real case from Warsaw

A client in Praga Poludnie ordered five interior doors fitted in a flat that had just undergone a full renovation. Every opening turned out to be a different width — from 70 to 90 cm — even though they were meant to be identical on the plan. Two walls were stud partitions and the rest were brick. In the stud walls we had to reinforce the openings with timber, otherwise the frames would not have been rigid enough. Three openings had walls thicker than the standard frame, so we added extension strips. The client chose magnetic latches — quieter in operation and flush with the edge of the leaf. All five doors were installed in a single working day. A week later the client messaged to say everything was working perfectly, not a single door squeaked or dragged on the floor. The lesson: in older buildings the openings are never standard, so it pays to use a fitter who can adapt to what the building throws at them.
