A wall cabinet is more than a board on two screws. Once assembled, it weighs 15 to 40 kg, and with dishes inside — easily 60. If the wall is plasterboard and the wrong fixings are used, after a couple of months the cabinet and everything inside can end up on the floor. How wall cabinet installation works
- You send a kitchen photo and a short description — how many cabinets there are, what kind of wall it is, and whether there are ventilation ducts or pipes behind the cabinets.
- The technician checks the wall type (brick, concrete, plasterboard, hollow block) and gives you an estimated price.
- On site, we set the height: the standard is the bottom edge of the wall cabinet at 140–160 cm from the floor, but it also depends on the residents’ height and the height of the base units.
- We mark the fixing line with a laser level — all cabinets need to hang in one perfectly straight line.
- We drill and fit the fixings: anchor bolts for concrete, wall plugs for brick, special toggle fixings for plasterboard or mounting through the stud frame.
- We hang the cabinets on a mounting rail, then adjust them precisely with the setting screws.
- We inspect everything: the cabinet doesn’t move, the doors open evenly, and the fronts line up with the neighbouring modules.
Common mistakes when hanging cabinets (and how to avoid them)
- Hanging a cabinet on plasterboard with standard screws — after a month the fixings tear out under the weight.
- Not checking where wiring or ventilation runs — the drill goes into a cable or pierces a duct.
- Using a flimsy mounting rail or hanging cabinets on separate hooks — over time they start shifting and leaning.
- Marking the height by eye without a level — one cabinet ends up a centimetre higher than the next, and the fronts stop lining up.
- Forgetting the space above the worktop for a splashback — the cabinet gets in the way of panel installation.
- Not taking the load into account: putting heavy dishes into a corner cabinet on weak fixings.
- Buying cabinets without adjustable hanging brackets — later you can’t fine-tune the height and depth.
What to prepare before the technician arrives
- Put the cabinets together if they came flat-packed (or order assembly as a separate service).
- Clear the work zone — remove everything from the worktop and move the table out of the way.
- If you know the wall type (brick, concrete, plasterboard on frame) — tell the technician beforehand.
- Take a photo of the wall where the cabinets will go and send it over — especially if there are sockets, pipes, or vents there.
- Choose the height: what bottom-edge height feels comfortable for your reach.
- Make sure there’s a power socket available for the hammer drill — we will need it.
- If the kitchen is new and there is no worktop yet — give us its planned height so we leave the right gap.
- Remove rugs or cover the floor with sheeting — drilling into concrete creates dust.
- Check the cabinet hardware: hanging brackets, hinges, shelf supports.
- Send the access details: intercom code, parking information.
A real case from Warsaw
A client in Ochota ordered installation of 5 upper IKEA Metod cabinets after putting the kitchen together himself. The wall turned out to be hollow silicate block — regular wall plugs did not hold well. We used chemical anchors: drilled the holes, filled them with resin, and inserted threaded rods. After 24 hours of curing, we mounted all cabinets on one mounting rail. There was also an extra complication — a ventilation duct in the corner: we had to trim one cabinet and fit around it. All fronts were aligned with the adjustment screws. The client said he had drilled the wall himself in two spots earlier — the plugs came out the next day. With chemical anchors, that issue is gone. The whole job took around 4 hours.

Yes, but only through the metal stud frame or with special plasterboard anchors. One screw straight into plasterboard alone — no.

Do the cabinets need to arrive assembled?
Ideally, yes. Assembly can be ordered separately. A cabinet in parts cannot be hung.

How many cabinets can you hang in one visit?
Usually 4–6 cabinets in 3–5 hours. For bigger kitchens, we agree the scope in advance.

Yes: IKEA, Castorama, Leroy Merlin, Polish manufacturers, custom-made — it makes no difference. What counts is the mounting type and the wall.
Do you guarantee the fixings?
Yes, you can expect the workmanship and the fixings we install. If the cabinet has a factory defect, that is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
