Parquet sanding in Warsaw — restoration without replacement
The parquet has darkened, picked up scratches, and the finish has worn through — but the wood is still alive and can be renewed. Sanding removes a thin top layer along with the old coating and reveals fresh timber underneath. After sanding the floor looks brand new — all it needs is a coat of lacquer or oil. It costs a fraction of a full replacement and takes just one to two days. We sand parquet across Warsaw — from Stary Mokotów to Bródno.
Sanding cost
The price depends on the area, the condition of the parquet, and the number of old coating layers. Current rates are in the table. Lacquer or oil is a separate item (can be ordered together).

How the sanding process works
- Inspection: depth of damage, remaining wood thickness, condition of individual blocks.
- The room is cleared; sockets and door frames are taped off with sheeting.
- Coarse sanding — removes old lacquer/oil and levels the surface (40–60 grit).
- Medium sanding — removes scratches from the first pass (80–100 grit).
- Fine sanding — prepares the surface for finishing (120–150 grit).
- Edges and hard-to-reach spots are done with a hand-held edger.
- Dust is vacuumed up and the surface is wiped with a damp cloth.
- Lacquer, oil, or wax is applied (usually the following day).
Common mistakes
- Sanding too aggressively — removes too much wood, leaving the parquet thin and fragile.
- Skipping intermediate grits — the surface stays rough and the finish goes on unevenly.
- Not vacuuming before finishing — dust particles set in the lacquer and the surface feels gritty.
- Sanding parquet that cannot be sanded again — the wear layer is under 2 mm.
What to prepare
- Clear the room completely.
- Punch down any protruding nails flush with the surface (they will tear the abrasive).
- Ensure an adequate power supply (the sander draws a lot of current).
- Warn the neighbours — it will be noisy (though modern machines have dust extraction).
- Decide on the finish: lacquer, oil, or wax.
A real case from Warsaw
An older flat in Mokotów, 45 m² of 1960s oak herringbone parquet. The lacquer had worn through to bare wood in the walkways and several blocks were loose. The technician re-glued the loose blocks, filled the gaps, and worked through three grits. The next day — two coats of polyurethane lacquer. Result: the parquet looks brand new, the herringbone pattern is sharper, and the grain pops. The owners saved a fortune — replacing parquet like this would have cost five times more.
Frequently asked questions
How many times can parquet be sanded?
It depends on the thickness. Solid parquet at 15 mm — three to four times over its lifetime. Engineered board with a 4 mm wear layer — once or twice.
How long does it take?
Sanding 20–30 m² — one day. Lacquering — another day. The floor can take foot traffic 24–48 hours after the final coat.
Will there be a lot of dust?
Very little. Modern machines have built-in dust extraction and filters. But sheeting on the doorways is still a must.
