Old flooring removal in Warsaw — linoleum, carpet, tiles

A new floor needs a properly clean base. Old linoleum, carpet, PVC sheet, or even ceramic tiles — everything needs to be removed and the screed has to be made ready. Each material comes off in its own way: carpet is often stuck down, linoleum leaves behind adhesive, tiles require a demolition hammer. We take up all kinds of floor coverings across Warsaw — and we come equipped with tools and waste bags.

Removal cost

The price depends on the kind of covering and the size of the area. Up-to-date rates are shown in the table. Disposal of construction waste is charged separately.

What we remove

  • Linoleum (including mastic-glued — the most time-consuming kind).
  • Carpet (quick to remove if loose-laid; glued-down takes more time).
  • PVC sheeting and vinyl tiles.
  • Old underlay and leftover adhesive.
  • Ceramic tiles (using a demolition hammer).

How the work goes

  1. Inspection: we check what kind of covering is there and how it is fixed to the substrate.
  2. Skirting boards are taken off (if they get in the way).
  3. The covering is cut or prised up, then rolled up or removed in sections.
  4. Adhesive residue is scraped away or sanded off.
  5. The screed is inspected for cracks and moisture.
  6. Waste is packed into bags.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving old adhesive on the screed — the new floor will sit unevenly.
  • Putting new linoleum over old — humps, bubbles, odour.
  • Breaking up tiles without protecting the screed — this damages the substrate, and then levelling is needed.
  • No ventilation — removing old floors can create dust and adhesive fumes.

What to prepare

  • Remove furniture from the room.
  • Make sure there is ventilation — open the windows.
  • Prepare heavy-duty waste bags (or the technician can bring his own for a fee).
  • Decide who will take care of waste disposal.

A real case from Warsaw

A flat in Bemowo, 55 m² — old linoleum on mastic from the 1990s. It was tough to remove — the adhesive had really keyed into the screed. The technician spent a full day with a scraper and a floor grinder. In the end, the screed underneath was in good condition — the new vinyl flooring went down without a problem (compatible with Quick-Step, Egger, Kronopol and similar).

Frequently asked questions

How long does removal take?

Loose-laid carpet — 30 minutes per room. Mastic-glued linoleum — a full day for an apartment. Tiles — depends on the area and thickness.

Can I lay a new floor over the old one?

In rare cases yes (e.g., new linoleum over old if it is flat). But usually it is better to strip — the result will be flatter and last longer.
