PVC flooring laying

PVC sheet flooring, often called lino, is one roll instead of hundreds of planks: few seams, easy to clean and water-resistant. It suits kitchens, bathrooms, children’s rooms and commercial premises. Laying it means preparing the base, cutting the sheet, laying it and fixing it with adhesive or tape.

The price is per square metre. Levelling the base and skirting are separate items.

How laying works

• cleaning and checking the base;
• unrolling the sheet so it flattens out;
• cutting with an allowance and trimming at the walls;
• full-spread adhesive or double-sided tape;
• welding or gluing seams in wider rooms.

The base under PVC

PVC sheet is thin and shows everything beneath it: grains of sand, cracks, old tile joints. So the base must be clean, dry and smooth. Over boards or OSB a levelling sheet often goes down first.

What to prepare

An empty room and its dimensions. The sheet should lie unrolled in the room for several hours before fitting. Say in the request what it goes on, concrete, tiles or boards, and whether the flooring is bought.
