Countertop Cutout in Warsaw — For Sink and Hob

Countertop Cutout in Warsaw — For Sink and Hob — HandyMan24 Warsaw

The new kitchen is put together, the worktop is fitted — now the only thing left is cutting the opening for the sink or hob. That’s where the trickiest part starts. One wrong move with the cut and the countertop is spoiled. Even more so when the material is pricey: solid wood, stone, or thick laminate. We cut countertop openings all over Warsaw — from Ursynów to Targówek — and we know how to do it properly on the first go.

How much does it cost and what affects the price

The price depends on the worktop material, the cutout shape, and how many openings need to be made. Laminated chipboard is faster to cut, while solid wood and stone need different tools and a different method. The final cost is confirmed after the technician checks the details — send a photo of the worktop and the appliance template. Current kitchen service rates are listed in the table below.

How the on-site work goes

  1. You send a photo of the countertop and the sink or hob model — the technician checks what needs to be done.
  2. We set a time — often for the same day or the next day.
  3. At the site, the technician checks the manufacturer’s template, measures everything, and marks the countertop.
  4. Drills a starter hole in the corner, then cuts the outline with a jigsaw fitted with a clean-cut blade.
  5. Finishes the edge: removes rough spots, applies sealant or oil for moisture protection if needed.
  6. Tries the appliance in the cutout, checking clearances and how it sits.
  7. Cleans away shavings and dust, then gives advice on sealing.

Common customer mistakes (and how to avoid them)

  • Marking the cutout by eye without a template — the opening ends up not fitting the appliance, and the countertop is spoiled.
  • Using an ordinary jigsaw blade — the laminate chips on the front side and leaves a messy edge.
  • Leaving the cut edges unsealed — chipboard takes in moisture and swells within six months.
  • Cutting too close to the edge — the countertop cracks once it takes load.
  • Not checking whether pipes or hoses run under the cutout area before starting.
  • Buying a sink without checking the bowl depth — it hits the drawer or cabinet wall.
  • Cutting the countertop before it is fixed to the frame — without support, the sheet bends and snaps.

What to prepare before the technician arrives

  • The countertop must already be fitted and firmly secured on the cabinet frame.
  • The sink or hob should be on site, together with the manufacturer’s cutout template.
  • If the template is missing — download it from the manufacturer’s website or check the dimensions in the manual.
  • Clear the work area: remove dishes and small appliances from the surface.
  • Provide access to a power socket for the tools.
  • Tell us what material the countertop is made of (chipboard, solid wood, stone) — this decides which tool is used.
  • If plumbing runs under the worktop — show it to the technician before work starts.
  • Let us know about fresh renovations — the technician will cover surfaces to protect them from dust.
  • Provide access details: intercom code, parking, floor number.

A real case from Warsaw

A client in the Mokotów district booked a cutout for a Blanco drop-in sink in a 38 mm laminated chipboard worktop. The issue: the sink template turned out to be 5 mm wider than the real dimensions — most likely a printing mistake in the manual. The technician checked against the sink itself and marked the outline by hand with a 2 mm allowance. The cut was done with a jigsaw and a laminate blade — clean edge, no chips. The edges were sealed with silicone, and the sink was installed. The whole job took about 40 minutes. The client later said that if he had followed the template, the sink would have dropped straight through. The lesson: always check the template against the actual appliance dimensions (compatible with IKEA, Nobilia, BRW and similar).

Frequently asked questions

Can the cutout be made in an already installed countertop?

Yes, that’s exactly how this job is done. The worktop must be fixed to the frame — otherwise it can crack while being cut.

What tool is used?

A jigsaw with a clean-cut blade for laminate. For solid wood — a router. For stone — a diamond disc.

Is the manufacturer’s template required?

Strongly recommended. If it’s missing, the technician can take measurements from the appliance itself, but it takes more time and calls for maximum accuracy.

What if the countertop is stone?

Stone needs specialised tools and more time. Tell us the material when booking — we’ll send a technician with the proper equipment.

How is the cut edge sealed?

Chipboard — with silicone sealant against moisture. Solid wood — with oil or varnish. Stone does not need treatment.

Can you cut two openings — for the sink and the hob?

Yes, we can make both cutouts in one visit. The main thing is to leave enough material between them so the worktop keeps its strength.

How long does the work take?

One cutout in a laminated worktop — 30–50 minutes. Two cutouts — about an hour. Stone takes more time.
