Light Switch Repair in Warsaw — We Find and Fix the Cause
13.02.2026Light Switch Repair in Warsaw — We Find and Fix the Cause
The light comes on every other press, the rocker wobbles, there is a crackling sound or a click with no result. This does not always mean the switch needs replacing. Often it is enough to tighten a contact, swap the rocker spring or secure the mechanism in the back box. In flats on Ochota and Praga Polnoc we find old switches that are still perfectly functional — they just need the contact group serviced.
Repair cost
The price depends on the complexity of the fault. Retightening contacts and securing the mechanism is quick and inexpensive. Replacing the contact group or restoring cables costs a little more. If the mechanism is destroyed, a full replacement is cheaper. All electrical service prices are in the table.

What can be repaired
- Loose terminal contact — the cable is not clamped firmly, light flickers or does not come on.
- Broken or weakened rocker spring — the rocker sticks and does not return to position.
- Wobbly mechanism — the switch moves in the wall when pressed.
- Oxidised contacts — cleaning and reconnection.
- Cracked frame or rocker — replacing decorative parts.
- Short cables — extending with connectors.
How the repair works
- We isolate the circuit at the board and test with an indicator.
- Remove the rocker and frame, extract the mechanism.
- Inspect contacts, cables, springs and back box.
- Fix the fault: retighten terminals, clean contacts, replace the spring or extend cables.
- Secure the mechanism in the back box, refit the frame and rocker.
- Switch the circuit on and test.
When repair is pointless
- The contact group is completely burnt out — nothing to restore.
- The mechanism housing is melted from overheating.
- The switch is an obsolete standard — no compatible parts.
- Mechanical wear is so severe that the spring and rocker cannot be replaced.
Warning: switch repair is electrical work. Even with the circuit isolated, always test for the absence of voltage with an indicator. If unsure, call a professional.
What to prepare
- Show us where the consumer unit is.
- Describe the problem: not working, flickering, rocker sticking, crackling on press.
- If several switches are affected, tell us straight away.
- Clear access — move furniture from the wall.
A real case from Warsaw
A client on Ochota called us: a bedroom switch had stopped turning on the light, even though the bulb was fine. We removed the switch — the cable in the terminal was hanging by a single strand; the rest had oxidised and snapped off. We stripped the cable and re-crimped the contact. We also found that the mechanism was held by only one fixing lug — the other had broken. We screwed it directly into the back box. The switch works like new; no replacement was needed.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the light flicker when I switch it on?
Most likely a poor contact in the switch. The cable is not clamped firmly or the contact plate has oxidised. Repair solves the problem.
The switch crackles — is that dangerous?
Yes. Crackling is an electric arc between the contacts. Over time the contact burns out completely; overheating is possible. Urgent repair or replacement is needed.
The rocker sticks — can it be fixed?
If the spring is intact, adjusting the mechanism is enough. If the spring is broken, sometimes it can be replaced; sometimes fitting a new switch is easier.
How long does a repair take?
Retightening contacts — 10–15 minutes. If cables need extending or the back box replacing — up to 40 minutes.
Can the technician decide on the spot — repair or replace?
Yes. Once the cover is off, the state of the mechanism and contacts is visible. The decision is made immediately.
