New Electrical Point Installation in Warsaw — Socket or Switch Where You Need It

You need a socket by the desk, a switch at the room entrance, or an outlet for a boiler — this is a standard job for an electrician. Installing an electrical point means creating a new connection from scratch: chasing the wall, running a cable, fitting a back box, and mounting a socket or switch. In Bielany and Targowek older flats often have just 2–3 sockets per room — clearly not enough for modern life.

What the cost includes

The price depends on chase length, wall type (plasterboard, brick, concrete) and the number of points. A short run in plasterboard is one price; a long chase in concrete is another. Labour covers chasing, cable laying, back-box fitting, socket or switch installation, and connection at the junction box. Materials (cable, back box, socket) are supplied by the client. Current prices are in the table.

How the work is done

  1. We determine the exact location of the new point and the cable route from the junction box or an existing circuit.
  2. We mark the chase line on the wall.
  3. We cut the channel and drill a pocket for the back box.
  4. We run the cable (typically NYM 3×2.5 for sockets, 3×1.5 for lighting).
  5. We set the back box in plaster.
  6. We connect the cable at the junction box or branch from an existing circuit.
  7. We mount the socket or switch.
  8. We fill the chase (skim coat on request).
  9. Testing: voltage, earth, load test.

Things to consider

  • Concrete walls take longer and are noisier to chase than brick or plasterboard.
  • In panel-built blocks, horizontal chases in load-bearing walls are not permitted — only vertical.
  • Cable must run strictly vertically and horizontally — never diagonally.
  • The new point connects to an existing breaker. If the circuit is already loaded, a separate breaker may be needed.
  • After chasing, the channel needs filling and painting.

Warning: installing a new electrical point is serious wiring work. Incorrect connections lead to circuit overload, short circuits or fire. Leave this job to a professional.

What to prepare

  • Decide exactly where the new point should go — show the technician the spot.
  • Specify socket or switch, and how many.
  • Provide access to the consumer unit.
  • Expect dust and noise — chasing inevitably creates mess.
  • Buy cable and back boxes in advance or ask the technician to bring them.

A real case from Warsaw

A client in Bielany moved his desk to the opposite wall; the nearest socket was now behind a wardrobe. An extension lead across the room was inconvenient and unsafe. We installed a new point: chased 3 metres from the junction box, ran NYM 3×2.5 cable and fitted a double earthed socket. We connected it in the junction box and tested under load. The chase was filled with gypsum filler. The client painted the wall himself. The whole job took about an hour and a half.

Frequently asked questions

Can a new point be added without chasing?
Yes — in surface-mounted trunking. It looks less neat but is faster, cleaner and cheaper. Suitable for garages, basements and store rooms.

How many points can you install in one visit?
Usually 2–4 points per day, depending on chase length and wall type.

Will the breaker need upgrading?
If the circuit already has many loads and a high-power appliance is being added, possibly. The technician will check and advise.

Who fills the chase?
The technician can apply a rough fill. Fine skim and painting are separate or DIY.

Can a new socket be connected from an existing one?
Yes, if the existing circuit can handle the load. This daisy-chain method is quicker than running cable back to the junction box.
