What to know about Manital handles
Manital, an Italian company, makes door handles, mostly on round roses, in a range of colours and finishes. The models look very different, but inside they work alike: a square spindle runs through the lock, and a return spring in the rose lifts the handle back up.
When a handle droops, the culprit is usually that spring or loose fixing screws. Sometimes tightening the screws is enough; if the spring has snapped, a new handle is simpler. If the same model is no longer sold, pick another with the same set of parts.
Check three things before buying. Which key escutcheon you need: for an ordinary key, a cylinder or a WC turn. How thick the door is. And whether the new rose will cover the marks left by the old one: if it is smaller, you will see pale patches or holes.
If you are replacing handles across the whole flat, stick to one series and one finish: chrome next to matt black in the same hallway looks accidental. The front door is a separate choice. It needs a cylinder escutcheon, often a security one, and an interior model doesn’t always suit it.
Where people go wrong
- Buying a handle without a key escutcheon, or with the wrong type.
- Tightening the rose all the way. The handle gets stiff and the spring wears faster.
- Replacing the handle when the lock is sticking. If the latch won’t retract, the problem is in the lock, not the handle.
- Using a spindle of the wrong length. Too short and it doesn’t reach the other handle; too long and the rose won’t sit flat.
- Cleaning brass or chrome with abrasives. The finish wears through within months.
Getting ready
- Photograph the handle from both sides and the door edge with the lock.
- Measure the door thickness.
- If you already have the new handles, keep them boxed with their screws.
- Count how many doors need doing: several doors are easier to hand to one person.
Ordering in the app
- Describe what’s wrong with the handles and add photos.
- Tradespeople who take this work in Warsaw send offers with their own price.
- Choose on price, ratings and reviews. Contacts open after that; you pay the tradesperson directly and he issues the invoice.
Handles are bought separately; screws and small fixings usually come with the labour. Whoever fitted them answers for his fitting. A cracked door or a faulty lock he never touched is not on him.
