What an urgent job costs

The hourly rate and the express surcharge

The starting point is the handyman’s hourly rate of 250–300 zł. There is a minimum order value, even if the job takes fifteen minutes. For a regular booking that’s all you pay. When time matters, two surcharges can apply:

• Urgent call-out (express): +50 % to +100 % on top of the service price, depending on how urgent it is. The handyman states the arrival time in the offer, and it depends on who is free nearby.
• Night and weekend work: +50 % to +100 % for evenings, weekends and public holidays.

The two can stack, so a Sunday night job costs more than a rushed Saturday morning. You see the price and the time in the handyman’s offer before you accept it. Current rates are in the table below.

When to book an urgent call-out

Safety first, then the order

• Water is pouring out. Turn off the main water valve in the flat. If it’s leaking into the neighbours below, tell the building administration.
• A socket is sparking or you smell burning. Switch off that circuit’s breaker or the main switch in the fuse box, and don’t touch anything with wet hands.
• You smell gas. Don’t switch on lights or use a flame. Open the windows, leave the flat and ring 992 (gas emergency) or 112.
• Smoke or fire. 112, right away. No handyman from an app is the right help here.

Situations that can’t wait

• Lock failure. You can’t get in, or the door won’t lock. Lock replacement usually takes 30–60 minutes. Add a photo of the cylinder to your job so the handyman can bring a matching one.
• Active leak. A dripping mixer tap or a hose leaking behind the washing machine. If you can’t shut the valve, an hour of water damage can cost more than the surcharge.
• No power in one room. A tripped breaker you can reset yourself. A burnt socket or a sparking outlet is a job for an electrician, and soon.
• Something breaks right before a big day. Guests in an hour, the toilet won’t flush, the shower door has come off its track. Mark the job as urgent and say by when it has to be done. Handymen will tell you whether they can make it.

When a regular booking is enough

A squeaky hinge, a shelf to put up, a slow drain. Annoying, but not an emergency. Post a regular job with no surcharge and pick a time that suits you. We take orders from anywhere in Poland.

Common mistakes with urgent repairs

• Ordering an electrician without opening the fuse box. Plenty of “urgent” power problems end with flipping a tripped breaker back up. If it trips again straight away, then order.
• Leaving the water on. There’s a stop valve under the sink and behind the toilet, and a main one where water enters the flat. Close it: you’ll still need the repair, but the damage stops growing.
• Hiring the first ad you find at midnight. Emergencies attract people who quote low and bill high once they’re at your door. In the app the price is in the offer before you accept, and it stays in writing.
• Hoping it sorts itself out. A small leak ends as a flooded floor, a loose socket as a short circuit. Posting the job early is cheaper than posting it late.

What to prepare before the handyman arrives

• Take a photo of the problem and add it to the job, so the handyman knows which parts to bring.
• Clear access: move furniture away, empty the cupboard under the sink.
• Find your stop valves for water, and for gas if the flat has it.
• Put the building entry code and intercom details in the job description.

How it works in practice: a jammed lock in Mokotów

A typical case. Saturday evening, a client gets home and the door lock is jammed: the cylinder turns, the bolt doesn’t move. Instead of scrolling through ads, she posts an urgent job in the app with a photo of the lock, an address in Mokotów and a note that the door won’t close. Offers come in with a price and an arrival time, and she picks the one that works for her. The handyman brings a cylinder matched from the photo, swaps it and tests the lock with every key. The express surcharge was in the offer from the start, so nobody argues about money at the door. How long does it take? Depends on the day. On a Saturday evening there tend to be fewer free handymen than on a Tuesday morning.
