How much does bleeding a radiator cost?
The rate is per radiator. What matters is how many there are, what kind of bleed valve is fitted (key, screwdriver or automatic), how easy it is to reach, and whether a house system needs topping up with water afterwards. Rates are in the table.
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Bleed radiator | 50–130 zł/szt |
Indicative prices. Ranges for a typical scope. Fixings included, materials separate. Minimum order 300 zł.
Replacing a seized or leaking bleed valve, a thermostatic head or other parts is paid separately, as are the parts. Flushing or balancing the whole system, if air isn’t the problem, is a separate job too.

When a radiator has air and when it is something else
Air shows up as a cold top with a warm bottom, gurgling or trickling inside the radiator, and only part of it heating up. If the whole radiator is cold while the ones next to it are hot, the cause is usually something else: a stuck pin in the thermostatic valve, a closed lockshield valve on the return, or sludge settled inside.
In a block with district heating, air tends to gather on the top floors. Is the whole riser cold, the neighbours’ too? That’s one for the building administration: the riser has its own air vents, and the shared system mustn’t be touched without them.
In a house, bleeding drops the system pressure. You check it on the boiler gauge and top up to the value in the boiler manual.
Safety first
The water in a radiator is hot and under pressure. Turn off the heating or the pump first and let the radiator cool, or the valve can spit out water that’s close to boiling. Open it half a turn, no more. Unscrew it all the way and you won’t get it back in against the pressure. If it won’t move, don’t go at it with pliers: you’ll strip the thread, and a five-minute job turns into a valve replacement.
How radiators are bled
- The heating or circulation pump is switched off and the radiators left to cool.
- A container and a cloth go under the valve.
- The valve is opened slightly with a key or screwdriver, and air hisses out first.
- Once a steady stream of water comes through with no bubbles, the valve is closed.
- Every radiator with air in it gets the same treatment in turn.
- In a house the boiler pressure is checked and topped up if needed. Then the heating goes back on to see whether the radiators warm up.
Common radiator bleeding mistakes
- Bleeding a hot system and burning your hands.
- Unscrewing the valve completely and not being able to get it back in.
- Forgetting the pressure, so the boiler in a house locks out with a fault.
- Bleeding one radiator when the air is spread through the whole system.
- No container under the valve, and dark radiator water all over the floor.
- A stuck thermostatic valve mistaken for air and bled again and again, to no effect.
What to prepare beforehand
- A list of radiators that heat badly and how: cold top, cold all over, noisy.
- A photo of the bleed valve on each problem radiator.
- Clear access: move furniture away and take off any radiator covers.
- In a house, a photo of the boiler pressure gauge.
- In a flat, ask the neighbours whether theirs are warm. That helps tell whether the problem is your radiator or the riser.
Which radiator to bleed first
In a house you usually start with radiators on the lowest floor, nearest the boiler, and finish with the highest and furthest. Air collects at the top of the system, so you often need to go back there once more.
In a block of flats you only bleed your own radiators. If a radiator stays cold afterwards, and the neighbours on the same riser have the same problem, the cause is in the building system and goes to the management.
Once all radiators are done, check the pressure on the boiler gauge and top up if needed as the boiler manual describes.
Clients often ask about these at the same time: concealed mixer installation and clearing a blocked drain.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bleed a radiator myself?
Yes, if the valve takes a key or screwdriver and isn’t seized. Radiator keys are sold in DIY stores. You need a handyman when the valve won’t turn, leaks, or the radiator still won’t heat after bleeding.
How often should radiators be bled?
Usually at the start of the heating season and after any work on the system. If air keeps coming back, the cause needs finding: a leak, air being drawn in, or a faulty automatic air vent.
Why did the boiler pressure drop after bleeding?
Some water came out along with the air. In a house you top it back up to the value in the boiler manual.
Who is responsible for the riser in a block of flats?
Usually the building administration or cooperative. If the whole riser is cold, report it to them.
Which radiator should I bleed first?
Usually the lowest one nearest the boiler, finishing with the highest and furthest. Check the system pressure at the end.
Should radiators be bled before the heating season?
Yes, it is a good time: air often collects after the summer break. Bleeding before the cold sets in saves you cold radiators in October.
How to order
Describe in the app how many radiators aren’t heating and how, and add photos of the valves, plus the boiler gauge if it’s a house. Handymen near you will send offers with their own price and timing. Compare reviews and pick one; only that person sees your address.
You pay the handyman directly and they issue the invoice. They stand behind their own work: if a valve they opened starts to drip, they’ll tighten or reseal it. Old pipework, sludge in the system and the shared riser are not on them.
