Epoxy Grout for Tiles in Warsaw — When You Need It and How It Is Applied
Epoxy Grout for Tiles in Warsaw — When You Need It and How It Is Applied
Cement grout in a shower goes dark, turns yellow and starts growing mould within six months. On a kitchen splashback it soaks up grease and stops coming clean. Epoxy grout is in another class: waterproof, colour-fast, mould-resistant and chemical-resistant. Mapei Kerapoxy, Litokol Starlike, Fugalite Eco — these are the three main brands we use on a daily basis. We install epoxy grout all over Warsaw, from Wilanow to Bemowo.
How much does it cost and what affects the price

Epoxy grout is pricier than cement grout — both in material cost and labour. Why: short working time (20-40 minutes per mix), the surface must be cleaned right away, and the job needs two people (one spreading, the other washing off). The final price is shaped by the total area, tile size (small tiles mean more joints), joint depth and the selected brand. You can see current prices in the table below.
| Service | min | max |
|---|---|---|
| Epoxy grouting | 40 zł/m² | 70 zł/m² |
| Epoxy grouting large format | 60 zł/m² | 90 zł/m² |
| Cement grouting | 15 zł/m² | 25 zł/m² |
| Standard tile up to 60 cm | 120 zł/m² | 160 zł/m² |
| Tile 60–120 cm | 160 zł/m² | 220 zł/m² |
| Large format 120+ cm | 220 zł/m² | 350 zł/m² |
How the work is done on site

- Joint inspection. We make sure the tiles are installed and the adhesive has cured fully (minimum 24 hours, 48 is better for epoxy). The joints have to be clean, without adhesive leftovers.
- Surface preparation. We wipe the tiles and remove dust from the joints. Porous tiles (natural stone, unglazed porcelain) get a protective treatment first — otherwise the epoxy will mark the pores.
- Mixing. Epoxy grout comes in two parts: resin and hardener. It is mixed exactly to ratio with a mixer at low speed. We prepare 0.5-1 kg batches — pot life is 30-40 minutes.
- Application. A rubber float is pulled diagonally over the joints, packing them to full depth. You need to move fast — the epoxy gets thicker minute by minute.
- Cleaning in progress. Every 10-15 minutes we remove the excess from the tile face with a wet cellulose sponge and fresh water. This is the key stage — after an hour the residue will not come off.
- Final cleaning. After the grout starts to set (2-3 hours) we wash the surface with a dedicated cleaner (Litokol Litonet, Mapei Kerapoxy Cleaner) to take off the film.
- Full cure — 5-7 days. During this period the joints must stay dry and not be put under load.
Common mistakes with epoxy grout

- Mixing too much — you will not spread it before it starts to thicken. Thick epoxy drags into strings and leaves patchy joints.
- Leaving residue too long — within an hour a permanent film appears on the tiles and is almost impossible to remove.
- Working solo — one person simply cannot spread and wipe at the same time. Epoxy grouting always takes two people.
- Skipping protection on porous tiles — epoxy gets into the pores of natural stone. Those stains stay there for good.
- Using an ordinary sponge — a cellulose sponge and clean water (changed every 2-3 wipes) are mandatory.
- Applying below +15 C — the epoxy will not cure properly and the joint remains soft and sticky.
What to prepare before the technician arrives

- Tiles installed and adhesive fully cured — minimum 48 hours after laying.
- Joints cleaned out, with no adhesive residue.
- Epoxy grout bought in advance. Brands: Mapei Kerapoxy / Kerapoxy Design, Litokol Starlike Evo, Fugalite Eco. Confirm the colour before purchase.
- Epoxy cleaner: Litokol Litonet Pro, Mapei Kerapoxy Cleaner. Required.
- Cellulose sponges (Supertelai or equivalent) — at least 10 for a bathroom.
- Clean water — plenty of it. Replace the bucket water often.
- Room temperature — minimum +18 C.
- Protect the bathtub, toilet and fittings with sheeting — epoxy splashes on chrome and ceramic are difficult to remove.
- Make sure there is ventilation — epoxy has a noticeable smell during application.
- Remove everything from the work area.
A real case from Warsaw

A bathroom in Mokotow, 8 m² of walls and floor — the client had installed 60×120 large format porcelain and wanted light joints that would stay bright. We went with Litokol Starlike Evo, colour “ice white”. The tile was glazed — no pore protection was needed. We cleared adhesive residue from the joints and vacuumed everything. Working as a pair: one spreads with a float, the other wipes with a cellulose sponge five to seven minutes later. In one day we finished all walls and floor — around 15 m² of joints, 12 mixes of 0.5 kg each. Three hours later we carried out the final wash with Litonet Pro. The joints are uniform and snow-white. Six months later the client sent a photo — the joints looked exactly the same as on day one (compatible with Paradyż, Tubądzin, Cersanit and similar).
Frequently asked questions
How is epoxy grout better than cementitious?
It does not take in water, does not shift colour, does not grow mould and stands up to chemicals and acids. Cement grout is cheaper, but in wet areas it starts breaking down within six months to a year.
Can epoxy grout be applied over old cementitious grout?
No. The old grout has to be removed completely from the joints. Otherwise the epoxy will not adhere.
Which brand is best: Mapei, Litokol or Fugalite?
All three are pro-grade products. Litokol Starlike Evo has the broadest range of colours and additives. Mapei Kerapoxy Design flows very well. Fugalite Eco is a good fit for narrow joints.
Is epoxy grout suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes. It is more flexible than cement grout and copes better with temperature changes. Expansion joints still need to be filled with silicone.
How soon after tiling can grouting be done?
At least 24 hours, with 48 better for epoxy. The adhesive has to be fully cured.
Is epoxy grout suitable for a kitchen splashback?
Yes, that is one of the best places to use it. It does not soak up grease, does not turn yellow from steam and cleans without trouble.
How much does epoxy grout cost per kilogram?
That depends on the brand and the colour. Check current prices at a building supply store — they move quite often.
Can I apply epoxy grout myself?
In theory, yes. In real life, mistakes cost money. Miss the cleaning window — permanent stains. Mix too much — wasted material. For a first try, it is better to call a professional.
Are materials included in the labour price?
No. The client buys the grout, cleaner and sponges. The labour price includes consumables.
How long does grouting a bathroom take?
A bathroom of 6-8 m² — one day. Mosaic or bigger areas — one and a half to two days. Full cure — 5-7 days.
Who does the work

Epoxy grout is installed by technicians who know two-component products from practice — this is not cement grout where you can work at a relaxed pace. We always come as a pair: one spreads, the other wipes. We bring a full set of tools and materials: cellulose sponges, floats, cleaners and protective products for porous tiles. We work across all of Warsaw. Get in touch — we will check the scope and give you a quote.
