What actually gets replaced in a Wavin system
Wavin makes pipes and fittings for water, heating and drainage. Rubber rings sit in the sockets of waste pipes and in some of the water fittings. Once the rubber hardens, or it was pushed out of place during fitting, the joint starts to weep.
Not every joint can be fixed with a seal alone. On waste pipes it is usually enough to pull the socket apart, clean it and fit a new ring of the same size. Press fittings on water pipes are single-use: the plumber cuts that section out and puts in a new fitting. Close-up photos are the quickest way to tell which one you have.
Sometimes the drip is not coming from the seal at all but from a cracked fitting or a spot where the pipe was bent too hard. So the plumber finds the source first and only then starts taking things apart.

How people make it worse
- Taping the leak or smearing silicone over it. It stays dry for a week, then the water is back, and under the silicone it is harder to see what went wrong.
- Buying a ring by eye at the DIY store. Too thin and it won’t seal, too thick and it forces the socket open so the leak moves next door.
- Cranking the nut as hard as possible. Plastic cracks before it seals.
- Waiting for it to stop. A soaked cabinet board and a mouldy corner cost more than the repair.
Before the plumber comes
- Find the valve that shuts off water to the flat and check that it actually turns.
- Empty the cabinet under the sink or take off the bath panel so the joint is in view.
- Take a couple of close-ups and one wider shot showing the whole run of pipe.
- If the pipe packaging with the diameter printed on it is still around, photograph that too.
