Signs a hose has had enough
Under the metal braid there is a rubber tube, and that is the part that ages. From the outside you see rust on the braid, a bulge, a kink by the nut, or a damp shelf under the sink. Any of these means a new hose, not a tighter nut.
There is not much verified information about the FlexiGuard brand itself, so go by what the packaging of the specific hose says: length, thread at each end, and whether it is rated for hot water. That tells you whether it fits your tap or cistern.
Get a little extra length, but no loops. A hose that is too short pulls on the joint; one that is too long kinks and rubs against the cabinet wall.
If one hose needs replacing, look at the others. Tap, cistern and washing machine hoses were often fitted at the same time, and they tend to age together.

Mistakes that bring the plumber back
- Tightening the nut with a wrench as far as it goes. The washer flattens and the thin nut cracks a week later.
- Fitting the hose under tension or with a sharp bend at the outlet.
- Changing only the hot hose when the cold one is just as old.
- Ignoring the angle valve. If it is seized or weeping, it gets replaced with the hose.
- Not checking under the sink an hour after the job.
Before the visit
- Empty the cabinet under the sink or clear access to the cistern.
- Check that the angle valves close; if not, locate the main stopcock.
- Take close-up photos of the old hose and its connections.
- Put down a cloth or a bowl.
Any work on water is done with the supply shut. If the valve does not hold, say so up front.
