What adjusting Simonswerk hinges can do
Simonswerk is a German hinge maker, known among other things for its concealed TECTUS hinges. These sit hidden in the leaf and frame and adjust in three directions: up and down, side to side, and pressure against the seal. They are set with a key, in small steps, checking the door after each one. Surface-mounted hinges have their own adjustment, depending on the type.
The usual picture is a leaf that has dropped a little over time. The gap at the top on the lock side grows, and the bottom starts to catch. Order matters here. First the height and position of the leaf in the opening, then the seal pressure, and last the lock and strike plate. Turn only one screw and the door stops rubbing in one spot and starts in another.
Adjustment has limits. If the frame is out of square, the wall moves, or the leaf has swollen with damp, a hinge cannot hide it. The tradesperson will tell you what else needs doing before reaching for the key.

What usually goes wrong
- Using whatever key is at hand and stripping the screw head.
- Adjusting one hinge when the leaf hangs on two or three.
- Trimming a door that has only sagged, which leaves an oversized gap once it is adjusted later.
- Pulling the leaf so tight against the seal that the lock turns stiffly.
Before anyone comes
- Look at where exactly the door rubs: top, lock side, bottom.
- Photograph the hinges and the gaps around the closed leaf.
- Say whether the problem came on suddenly or gradually, for example after a renovation or a change of season.
Finding a tradesperson
Describe in the app what the door is doing and add photos of the hinges and gaps. Tradespeople send bids with their own price and timing. You pick one on price, ratings and reviews, and only then do you both see phone numbers and the address. You pay him directly, and he issues the invoice.
Order in the app
Describe the job, add photos and the address. Tradespeople send their own prices and dates, and you pick one of the offers.
Open the appThe tradesperson answers for his own adjustment and will redo it if he set something wrong. A crooked frame fitted by someone else and hidden faults in the leaf are not on him. New hinges or parts are charged separately as materials.
