Cabinet hinges: three screws and some patience
Hettich is a German maker of furniture fittings: hinges, drawer runners and sliding door systems. In kitchens and wardrobes you mostly find its concealed cup hinges, including ones with built-in soft-close like Sensys. A hinge like that adjusts in three directions: sideways, depth and height. Each has its own screw, and turning one can shift the whole front.
First the fixing screws into the carcass get tightened and the cup is checked in the front. A loose hinge can be adjusted, but a week later it drifts back. Only then are the gaps between fronts set, so they run even both ways. Tall fronts, like a fridge housing, have several hinges, and those are adjusted together.
Sliding wardrobes work differently. In Hettich systems such as TopLine the door runs on carriages along a track, and its position is set by adjusting the carriages. A door that bangs into the side of the carcass or leaves a gap when closed usually needs levelling. The wardrobe itself has to stand straight too, since a twisted carcass undoes any adjustment.
Sometimes a hinge has been adjusted so many times that the screws have reached the end of their travel. Then the front will not move any further and the cause is elsewhere: a loose cup, crumbled board under the screws, a twisted carcass. The tradesperson can tell after a look; photos do not always show it.

Hettich door adjustment: common mistakes
- Turn adjustment screws while the hinge sits on loose fixing screws.
- Set one front without looking at its neighbours. A gap fixed here opens up there.
- Oil the soft-close. A damper that has stopped working gets replaced.
- Hang more on a sliding door than it was built for, heavy mirrors for instance.
Hettich door adjustment: getting ready
- Take a photo of the fronts from a distance so uneven gaps show.
- Get close-ups of the hinges or the sliding door carriages.
- Count the doors that need work and empty the cabinets he will be working at.
How to find someone
Describe in the app which fronts and doors are misbehaving and add photos. Tradespeople reply with bids carrying their own price and timing. Pick one on price, ratings and reviews; contact details and address open up after you choose. You pay the tradesperson directly and he issues the invoice.
Order in the app
Describe the job, add photos and the address. Tradespeople send their own prices and dates, and you pick one of the offers.
Open the appNew hinges, dampers or carriages are charged separately as materials. The tradesperson answers for his own adjustment and will redo it if he set something wrong. Torn-out screw holes in the board, a twisted carcass and someone else’s installation are not on him.
