What actually gets replaced
In most Warsaw flats only the cylinder is changed: the part you put the key into. The mortise lock inside the door stays. The whole mechanism goes when the bolt no longer throws fully, something inside has broken, or someone has tried to force the door.
Yale makes basic cylinders, models with anti-drill and anti-bump protection, and electronic locks. Not every cylinder fits every door. What matters is the length on each side, measured from the fixing screw, and on security doors the grade the door needs.
If the key started sticking all of a sudden, look at the door first. A sagging leaf drags the bolt down and a perfectly good lock turns hard. Adjusting the hinges fixes that; a new cylinder won’t.

Mistakes people make
- Buying a cylinder by eye. Too short and it won’t fit; too long and it sticks out of the escutcheon, where it is easy to snap off.
- Spraying oil or WD-40 into it. Oil collects dust, and a few months later the key is worse than before. Use graphite or a lock spray.
- Changing the cylinder in a warped door. The new one wears out for the same reason as the old.
- Losing keys and doing nothing. If anyone could have your set, change the cylinder straight away.
- Drilling out a broken key yourself. The piece can usually be pulled out without damaging the door.
Before the tradesperson arrives
- Take photos of the door from both sides, with the escutcheon in the shot.
- If you already bought a cylinder, keep the box and the key code card.
- In a rented flat, clear the change with the landlord first.
Booking it in the app
Describe what the lock is doing and add photos of the door. Tradespeople who take this kind of job in Warsaw reply with their own price and timing. You compare prices, ratings and reviews, then choose one; phone numbers and your exact address are shared only after that.
You pay the tradesperson directly, and he issues the invoice. The cylinder or lock is bought separately, while fixings are normally part of the job. Whoever fitted it answers for his fitting. A warped door or a split frame is not on him, so mention their condition in the order.
