What to know about Hettich
Hettich is a German maker of furniture hardware: hinges, drawer runners, fittings for sliding and folding doors. The wardrobes themselves come from other factories or from joiners working to order, and Hettich supplies the parts that move. So a “Hettich wardrobe” almost always means some maker’s carcass with this hardware inside.
Hettich hinges adjust with screws in several directions: sideways, up and down, in and out. That lets you line up every door with even gaps. The adjustment works in millimetres, though. If the carcass is built out of square, no screw will hide it.
Drawer runners go in strictly parallel and at the same height on both sides. Get them a couple of millimetres out and a soft-close drawer won’t shut fully, or it slams. With push-to-open systems, the front also mustn’t touch the one next to it.
What it costs and how to book: hinge and drawer runner replacement in Warsaw.
Typical slip-ups
- Hinges screwed into chipboard with the wrong screw size. The hole gets chewed up and the door starts to drop.
- Adjusting an empty wardrobe. Once the shelves are loaded, the gaps shift.
- Drawer runners set by eye. The drawer drags on one side.
- The soft-close switched off or never engaged, even though the hinge has it.
- A sliding system mounted on a carcass that isn’t level.
Getting ready
- Find out which hardware is fitted. The name is often stamped on the hinge or runner.
- If the wardrobe is already built and just needs adjusting, photograph the gaps and the problem drawers.
- Empty the shelves and drawers that will be worked on.
- Keep the instructions and any spare parts from the box.
Ordering in the app
Say in the app what you need: a full build or adjustment of a finished wardrobe. Photos of the hinges and gaps tell a fitter more than a long description. Bids come in with each fitter’s own price. Choose by rating and reviews, and the phone number appears once you’ve picked someone.
You pay the fitter directly and he issues the invoice. Fixings for assembly are normally included; new hardware to replace broken parts is extra. He answers for what he built and adjusted, and will correct his own settings. Holes chewed up before he came and factory faults are not his responsibility. There are more general tips in our piece on furniture assembly in Warsaw.
