What to sort out before drilling
A light frame and a floor mirror you’ve decided to hang are two different jobs. The frame is fine on a small nail or an adhesive strip if the wall is smooth. A large mirror like HOVET is properly heavy and needs fixings chosen for the wall: one type of plug for concrete, a cavity anchor or a fixing into the stud for plasterboard.
The MOSSLANDA ledge is screwed along its length and the frames just stand on it. Great if you swap pictures often, since you only drill once. The catch is that the ledge must be dead level, or the frames slowly creep towards one end.
With a gallery wall, the real work is the layout, not the drilling. Lay it out on the floor or on paper first, transfer it to the wall, and only then reach for the drill.

How walls usually get ruined
- A mirror on a single nail. It holds until someone brushes it with a shoulder.
- A gallery marked by eye. Two millimetres between neighbouring frames jumps out immediately.
- A plastic plug in plasterboard under a heavy mirror, which eventually tears out with a chunk of board.
- Drilling without checking the wall. Cables run above switches and beside sockets more often than you’d like.
- A bathroom mirror stuck on adhesive that isn’t rated for damp.
On safety: check the wall with a cable detector before drilling, and anything bigger than a normal frame hangs on at least two points.
IKEA picture and mirror hanging: getting ready
- Lay the frames out on the floor and take a photo of the layout you like.
- Weigh the mirror on bathroom scales if you don’t know its weight.
- Mark the height. The centre of a picture usually sits at eye level.
- Clear the wall and cover the furniture below it.
Booking in the app
Describe the job: how many frames, which mirror, what kind of wall. A photo of the floor layout helps a lot. Handymen send offers with their own price, and you choose on price, rating and reviews.
The handyman sees your phone and address after you choose them. You pay them directly and they issue the invoice. Plugs and screws are usually in the price, special fixings for a heavy mirror may be a separate line.
Order in the app
Describe the job, add photos and the address. Tradespeople send their own prices and dates, and you pick one of the offers.
Open the appIf a frame ends up crooked or the mirror comes away because of the installation, the handyman redoes their work. Crumbling plaster and voids in the wall aren’t their responsibility.
