What Spit is and when it fits
Spit mostly makes fixings for construction: anchors for concrete and brick, plus the Pulsa gas-powered nailers that site crews use to fire fixings into concrete and steel. For a light frame that’s clearly overkill. An ordinary plug holds it fine.
Spit starts to make sense when the item is heavy or valuable: a large mirror, a painting in a heavy frame, a mirrored panel in the hallway. An anchor in concrete holds well, but only if the hole matches the diameter and depth specified for that anchor.
Aerated block and hollow brick are another story. An anchor designed for dense concrete doesn’t expand properly in them, so the handyman picks a different type. The first thing to establish is what the wall actually is.
Rather hand the job over? More here: mirror hanging in Warsaw.
Mistakes with heavy items
- The hole is too wide or drilled at an angle. The anchor sits loose and works itself free over time.
- The mirror hangs on one point. One knock and it swings on the hook.
- No check before drilling. Hitting a cable in concrete is just as easy as in plasterboard.
- The hanger on the frame isn’t rated for the mirror’s weight. The wall holds, the anchor holds, and the loop on the frame tears off.
- A concrete anchor in aerated block, spinning in its hole.
On safety: the wall always gets checked with a cable detector first, and a heavy mirror goes up on at least two points.
Preparation
- Find out roughly what the mirror or picture weighs.
- Check the hangers on the frame. Are they intact and rated for that weight?
- Mark the spot and the height.
- Clear floor space near the wall so the mirror can be set down during the work.
Ordering in the app
Describe the job: what’s being hung, the weight, the wall, whether the frame has hangers. Add photos. Handymen send offers with their own price, and you choose by price, rating and reviews.
The handyman gets your contact details and address only once you’ve picked them. You pay them directly and they issue the invoice. Standard fixings are part of the job, anchors for a heavy item may be listed separately.
