Felt-tip on the nursery wall, stickers, plasticine marks, scuffs at a child’s height — a familiar picture. Painting over the drawings isn’t enough: marker and pen bleed through white paint within a week. Painting walls after kids means sealing the “artwork” with a special primer and painting, ideally straight away with washable paint so the next drawing simply wipes off. We work neatly and fast to give a nursery, or a whole flat in Ursynów or Bielany, a tidy look again.
How much painting after kids costs and what drives the price

The price depends on whether we paint the whole room or only the lower “child” zone, and how many drawings need sealing. Often it’s enough to paint the lower part of the walls and a couple of accent spots. If you want to change the whole room’s colour, we plan two coats. A stain-blocking primer for marker and washable paint are separate materials. Film and fixings are part of the labour. Rates are in the table below.
| Service | min | max |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning and washing walls before painting | 15 zł/m² | 25 zł/m² |
| Filling holes and damages | 20 zł/m² | 35 zł/m² |
| Priming before painting | 15 zł/m² | 25 zł/m² |
| Painting walls / ceilings in one color (2 coats) | 30 zł/m² | 45 zł/m² |
| Gypsum putty application | 55 zł/m² | 90 zł/m² |
| Protection of furniture, doors, windows and floors with film | 10 zł/m² | 15 zł/m² |
Tip: for a nursery choose washable paint — the next drawing wipes off with a cloth, no repainting.
How the job goes on site — step by step

- Inspection: we see where the marker, pen, stickers, plasticine and scuffs are.
- Removing stickers and plasticine, lightly washing the dirty zones.
- Sealing the drawings: a blocking primer over marker and pen, otherwise they bleed through.
- Local filling if there are scratches and dents.
- Painting with washable paint: the lower zone or the whole wall in two coats.
- Clean-up: we remove film and put furniture back.
Common parent mistakes (and how to avoid them)

- Painting over marker with ordinary paint. It bleeds through white — you need a blocking primer.
- Matt paint in a nursery. It doesn’t wash; washable paint survives new drawings.
- Painting straight over stickers. They must come off, otherwise outlines remain.
- One coat over a coloured wall. Changing colour, one coat shows through.
- Cheap smelly paint in a child’s room. Use low-odour paint for living rooms.
- Not protecting furniture and toys. Easier to cover them than to clean them later.
What to prepare before the pro arrives

- Take off stickers and posters, move toys away from the walls.
- Mark the zones with marker, pen, plasticine.
- Decide: touch up the lower zone or the whole room.
- Choose a colour and ideally washable paint.
- Clear access to the walls, move the cot/desk.
- Provide access to water and electricity.
- Roll up the rug or be ready to cover the floor.
- Confirm the lift and parking.
A case from practice in Warsaw

In a nursery in Ursynów the walls had felt-tip at child height, a couple of stickers and toy dents. The parents tried painting over with white — the drawings came back in a week. We removed the stickers, sealed the marker with a blocking primer, filled the dents and painted the lower zone with washable paint, refreshing the top. The drawings didn’t return, and new ones now wipe off with a damp cloth. It took half a day. The takeaway: after kids it’s not the paint itself but sealing the marker and choosing a washable finish for the future that counts.
Frequently asked questions
Why do drawings bleed through white paint?
Marker and pen “punch through” ordinary paint. You need a stain-blocking primer over the drawing.
Do I have to paint the whole room?
No, often the lower child zone and a couple of drawing spots are enough.
What paint for a nursery?
Washable and low-odour — the next drawing wipes off and the room airs out fast.
Will you remove stickers and plasticine marks?
Yes, we remove and clean the zones before painting.
Will you fix scratches and dents?
We fill and sand them locally before painting.
How fast do you do a nursery?
Often half a day to a day if we paint a zone, not the whole flat.
Do you buy the paint?
Whatever is easier. We suggest washable paint and a blocking primer. Materials are separate.
Does it smell strongly?
We use low-odour paint; the room can be aired and used the same day.
Will you clean up after yourselves?
Yes, we remove film and tape, put furniture back and take away the waste.
Do you cover my district?
We work across all of Warsaw — Ursynów, Bielany, Mokotów and others. Leave a request.
Who does the work and how

The work is done by pros from the handyman service. For a nursery we suggest low-odour washable paint, seal the drawings and protect furniture and toys. We agree the scope and price at the inspection. Leave a request and we’ll assess where a zone touch-up is enough and where the whole room is needed.
