Minor repairs (handyman per hour)

A dripping trap, a curtain rail that has pulled out of the wall, a cabinet door hanging crooked, the hallway light, a wobbly socket. Each one is too small to book on its own, but together they can ruin more than one weekend. Hourly minor repairs are made for exactly this kind of list.

How an hourly handyman works

You pay for working time rather than for each job separately. So it is best to gather your list and describe it in one order, ideally with photos. On arrival the handyman walks round the flat with you, agrees the order and starts with whatever is urgent or takes longest.

There is a minimum order value, shown in the price note on this page. If you only have two small things, it is worth adding whatever has been waiting: a skirting board, a tap washer, a shelf.

What fits into an hour or two

• replacing a tap washer or the hose under the sink;
• adjusting a door, a window or kitchen cabinet fronts;
• putting up a shelf, mirror, picture or curtain rail;
• swapping a socket, a switch or a lamp holder with the circuit switched off;
• resealing a bath or shower tray with silicone;
• assembling a small piece of furniture or tightening hinges.

Bigger jobs such as fitting a kitchen, laying laminate or painting a room are better booked as separate services, so tradespeople quote for the whole scope rather than for hours.

How to write your list

Give each item one sentence: what is wrong and where. Add photos and, if you can, buy the parts beforehand, for example the exact tap or light fitting you want. The handyman brings tools and small fixings, while materials are charged separately.
