Blind cord and mechanism replacement: what the job involves
A snapped cord, a broken chain or a worn spring mechanism are the most common faults in fabric roller blinds and Venetian blinds. The fabric or slats are usually fine, so a new cord or mechanism brings the blind back to life for a fraction of the price of a new one.
The price is per job. Cords, chains and mechanisms are charged separately as materials.
What the replacement covers
- taking the blind off its brackets;
- opening the mechanism and removing the broken cord or chain;
- fitting the new cord, chain or mechanism;
- setting the tension and the lock;
- rehanging and checking it works.
External shutters with a strap
External roller shutters often snap the strap at the winder below the window. Replacing it means opening the winder and sometimes the shutter box. Say in the request that the shutter is external and add a photo of the winder.
What to prepare
A close-up photo of the mechanism and the brand if you know it. If you have bought spare parts, give the model. Move furniture away from the window.
Common questions
Are parts available for old blinds?
For common systems, usually. With very old models it is sometimes simpler to replace the whole mechanism.
Is restringing a Venetian blind difficult?
The blind has to be taken apart and the cord threaded through the slats, so it takes longer than a roller blind.
Does the service cover several blinds?
