The Geberit frame: the part you won’t see again
Geberit is a Swiss manufacturer best known for concealed frames with the cistern built into the wall. The frame is fixed to the wall and the floor, set plumb and at the right height, then connected to the water supply and the soil pipe. Only after that is the wall boarded and tiled, and the pan and flush plate go on last.
The pan height is set on the frame, and you can’t change it later without opening the wall. Decide beforehand how high the seat should be, especially if older people or someone very tall live in the flat.
The cistern in the wall is reached through the opening behind the flush plate. The fill valve and flush valve are replaced that way, with no chiselling. That’s why the plate must never be glued or boarded over, and the access opening has to stay as the manufacturer designed it.

Common mistakes with frame and pan
- The wall closed up without a leak test. A weeping joint shows up a month later as a stain on the tiles.
- A frame fixed only to the floor, or to a weak wall. Over time the pan dips slightly when someone sits down.
- Pan bolts cut too short or too long for the thickness of the wall finish.
- No acoustic pad between pan and wall, so the neighbours hear every flush.
- Soil connectors pushed in at an angle, so the pan won’t sit flush to the wall.
Getting ready
- Work out whether the frame is already in or still has to be fitted. They’re two different jobs.
- Buy the pan, seat, flush plate and connectors before the visit.
- Photograph the spot, the water supply and the soil pipe.
- If the wall is already closed, take the flush plate off and photograph the opening.
The water supply to the flat is turned off before the frame is connected.
Finding a fitter
Describe the job in the app and attach photos. Say whether it’s just the frame, just the pan, or everything including boarding, because that decides the price and time. Fitters who take this kind of work in Warsaw reply with bids at their own price and date. You choose by price, ratings and reviews, and the phone number and address appear only after you pick.
You pay the fitter directly and he issues the invoice. Fixings are usually included; boards, tiles, the pan, the flush plate, taking the old toilet away and carrying materials in are extra. He answers for his own fitting and redoes it if it leaks. Old risers, a crooked wall and someone else’s earlier work are not on him.
