Samsung Washing Machine Connection in Warsaw: Swapping the Old One

The old washer in your Praga block has given up, and the new Samsung is sitting in its box in the hallway. On a job like this, connecting the new machine is only half of it. The other half is disconnecting the old one and finding out whether connections nobody has touched in years are still fit to use.

Old one out, Samsung in

First the water goes off and the old machine gets disconnected. This is where the first surprise tends to turn up: a valve nobody has turned in years won’t close, or starts dripping around the spindle. Then it has to be replaced, which means shutting off the riser. Better to know that before the visit than halfway through it.

The old hoses leave with the old washer. The Samsung comes with its own, and those are what go on. A rubber hose stiffens after a few years and cracks at the first bend.

Before the new machine goes where the old one stood, measure the gap. Newer models can be deeper than the ones bought years ago, and in a small block bathroom every centimetre counts: the door has to open fully and the hoses can’t be squashed against the wall. An uneven floor is one more reason to level the feet with a spirit level rather than by eye.

After that it’s the usual order: transit bolts out, caps in, feet levelled, inlet hose onto the valve, drain into a trap with a spigot. Then a short cycle with no laundry and a check that everything stays dry.

In older blocks, electricity is its own topic. You still find sockets without an earth pin, or old aluminium wiring. A washer doesn’t get plugged in there just to see what happens. If the socket needs work, that’s an electrician’s job, and it’s worth adding to the order from the start.

Where it falls apart

  • A new washer on old hoses. You save pocket change and flood the flat below.
  • A valve that “sort of holds”. Next time it doesn’t.
  • The old machine left on the landing, because nobody agreed who was carrying it out.
  • A socket with no earth and the hope that it’ll be fine.

What to settle first

  • Whether the old washer has to leave the flat. Carrying it out and disposal are a separate line in the bid.
  • Whether the new one has to go up the stairs. With no lift, the tradesperson needs to know.
  • What the valve and socket look like. A photo says more than a description.

The rule for water and power is simple: breaker off and water closed first, tools second.

How to order

  1. In the app, say you’re swapping an old washer for a Samsung and add photos of the spot.
  2. Tradespeople send bids at their own price. Compare them along with ratings and reviews, then pick one.
  3. Contact details open up once you’ve chosen. You pay him directly and he issues the invoice.

Whoever did the connection answers for it: if his fitting starts to drip, he fixes it. A corroded riser or old wiring in the wall is not on him.
