Apartment cleaning

People book apartment cleaning for all sorts of reasons: before moving in, after a tenant moves out, before guests arrive, or simply because there is no time during the week. It is charged by the hour, so you decide how many rooms and how thorough the clean should be.

What a clean usually includes

• vacuuming and mopping the floors in every room;
• dusting furniture, windowsills, skirting boards and doors;
• kitchen: worktops, cabinet fronts, sink, hob and the outside of appliances;
• bathroom: basin, bath or shower, toilet, mirrors and taps;
• taking the rubbish out in bags.

Window cleaning, the inside of the oven and fridge, washing curtains or a post-renovation clean are extras. List them in the job so the cleaner can plan the time.

End-of-tenancy and move-in cleans

A flat after a tenant usually needs more than a standard clean: limescale in the bathroom, grease in the kitchen, marks on the walls. For this kind of job, attach photos, because they show how many hours it will really take. If the flat is going back on the rental market, say whether you want small faults spotted during the clean reported to you, such as a dripping tap or a loose handle.

Products and equipment

The cleaner usually brings their own products and cloths, and sometimes uses your vacuum. If you have delicate surfaces, such as natural stone, oiled wood or matt cabinet fronts, mention it or leave out the products the manufacturer recommends.
