IKEA furniture assembly

Furniture from IKEA, BRW (Black Red White) or Agata arrives in flat boxes with a wordless manual. A bedside table takes a quarter of an hour; a PAX wardrobe with doors can take half a day. Flat-pack assembly means building the piece to the manufacturer’s instructions, adjusting the doors and fixing it to the wall where the manufacturer asks for it.

The price is per item, and the range depends on the size of the piece and how many drawers, doors and fittings it has.

What assembly covers

• unpacking and checking the parts against the list in the manual;
• building the carcass, shelves, drawers and doors;
• adjusting hinges and fronts so the gaps are even;
• fixing to the wall with the supplied kit or plugs suited to the wall;
• gathering the plastic and small waste in one place.

Large pieces and PAX

Tall wardrobes are usually built lying down and stood up at the end, so you need floor space and clearance below the ceiling. If the ceiling is lower than the wardrobe height plus a few centimetres, it cannot be stood up. Measure before you order.

What to prepare

The boxes in the right room, a clear floor and access to the wall. List the furniture in the request, ideally with model names or links. If the wall is plasterboard or has cables in it, mention it.
