Freestanding wardrobe assembly: what the job involves
A freestanding wardrobe is the biggest piece that usually comes flat-packed: two or three boxes, heavy side panels, doors and rails. Building one alone is hard because the carcass has to be lifted from the floor to upright. Assembly covers building it, standing it up, levelling it and fixing it to the wall.
The price is per job and depends on the wardrobe size, the type of doors and the interior fittings.
What assembly covers
- building the carcass on the floor;
- standing it up and levelling it on an uneven floor;
- fitting hinged or sliding doors;
- rails, shelves, drawers and mirror, if included;
- fixing it to the wall against tipping.
Ceiling height
A wardrobe built lying down is raised on its diagonal. If the side panel diagonal is longer than the room height, it cannot be stood up and has to be built upright. Measure the room height and put it in the request along with the model.
What to prepare
The boxes in the right room and clear floor space as long as the wardrobe. Give the model or a link. If it will stand against plasterboard or by a window, mention it, as that changes the fixing.

Does the wardrobe need fixing to the wall?
Yes, tall furniture is always fixed. The manufacturer usually includes a kit.
Can it be moved later?
Moving an assembled wardrobe is risky. It is better to take it apart and rebuild it in the new spot.
How long does it take?
Usually two to a few hours, depending on size and the number of doors.
