Bochemit and drains
In Poland and the Czech Republic Bochemit is known for wood protection products: preservatives and treatments against rot and insects. They’re not made for drains. Pouring wood preservative down a plughole won’t dissolve a blockage and can do harm: the chemicals end up in the pipes and with the neighbours downstairs.
A blocked drain in a flat is usually hair, soap sludge, grease and food scraps. Proper drain products deal with soft sludge in the trap. A dense plug further down the pipe needs mechanical work: the plumber takes the trap off and cleans it by hand, then runs a drain snake into the pipe. If the blockage is in the stack, that’s a matter for the building manager.
Older buildings often have cast-iron pipes with rough inner walls. Sludge sticks to them harder, and after chemicals the blockage comes back sooner. There, mechanical cleaning is almost always the more reliable option.
You can get a rough idea of where the blockage is yourself. If only one basin is slow, the plug is almost certainly in its trap or the first stretch of pipe. If water rises in the bath when you flush the toilet, or the sink and bath are both blocked, it’s further down, in the flat’s main waste pipe. Put that in the job: the plumber will know which snake to bring.

How not to make it worse
- Don’t pour anything down the drain that isn’t meant for it: wood treatments, solvents, preservatives.
- Don’t mix different drain products. The reaction can give off caustic fumes.
- Don’t force the blockage with wire. Old pipe joints give way easily.
- Don’t keep running water when it’s already rising in the next basin.
What to have ready for the plumber
- Access to the trap: clear the cabinet or open the access panel by the bath.
- A bowl and some old towels.
- A photo of the label, if you’ve already poured something in.
- A list of where water is standing: one basin, or the bath, sink and toilet together.
Whatever drain product you use, wear gloves and open a window.
How to book the job
Describe in the app which drain is blocked and what you’ve already tried, and add photos. Plumbers who take blockage jobs in Warsaw will send bids at their own price. You pick one by price, rating and reviews, and only after that do you see his phone number and he sees your address. You pay the plumber directly, and he issues the invoice.
Order in the app
Describe the job, add photos and the address. Tradespeople send their own prices and dates, and you pick one of the offers.
Open the appThe plumber answers for his own work, for example the trap he took off and put back. A rusty stack or a blockage in the building’s shared pipes is not on him.
