What matters when switching to Roca
Roca is a Spanish bathroom maker whose range includes acrylic baths and enamelled steel ones. The material decides the support. A steel bath goes on legs and needs sound-deadening pads underneath, or filling it sounds like a bucket. An acrylic bath needs its frame or the reinforced legs from the kit, never less.
An old cast-iron tub is either carried out whole or broken up on site, and that is heavy, noisy work. Decide in advance who takes it away and how. Removal is usually not part of the fitting price.
Once the old tub is out, you see the wall and floor behind it. Often there is an old waste, cracked tiles, sometimes mould. The fitter installing the bath does not repair walls, but from the photos in your order they will say what has to happen first.
The bath is set level with a slight fall to the waste. The joint between rim and wall is sealed with silicone while the bath is full of water. Under that weight it settles, so the joint does not tear the first time someone gets in.

Where it usually goes wrong
- Buying a bath without measuring the alcove. Walls in older blocks are rarely straight.
- Reusing the old waste on the new bath. A new waste and overflow made for the model is the better choice.
- Sealing the joint with the bath empty, so it pulls away within a week.
- Boxing the bath in with no access panel. Reaching the trap later means breaking tiles.
Getting ready
- Measure the alcove along its length in a few places and photograph it.
- Decide who removes the old tub.
- Check the water to the bath tap can be shut off.
- Clear the bathroom and hallway so the bath can be carried through.
The work is done with the water off. If the valve in the flat does not hold, say so in the order.
