Ring, holder and bulb are three separate buys
Kanlux sells many of its downlights as the ring alone. The lamp holder with its lead and the bulb are often bought separately, and that’s the most common surprise on fitting day. Before booking anyone, check you have the full set: rings, holders that match the bulbs, and the bulbs themselves.
Rings come fixed or tilting. Tilting ones let you aim light at a picture, worktop or wardrobe, fixed ones point straight down. In a bathroom and above a shower, use downlights with the right IP rating, not ordinary indoor rings.
The cut-out size is given by the manufacturer. If new lights are replacing old ones, check they fit the existing holes. An oversized hole can sometimes hide under a wider ring, but not always.

Old 12 V halogens and LED
Older halogen downlights often run on 12 V, with transformers sitting above the ceiling. A 12 V LED bulb in that setup may flicker or not light at all, because the old transformer doesn’t like such a small load.
There are two ways out. Fit drivers designed for 12 V LED, or remove the transformers and switch to 230 V holders with GU10 bulbs. The second is easier to live with later, but it needs access to every light from above. Which one makes sense, the electrician will tell you after taking out a single spot.
Stretch ceilings make it harder: you can’t change the hole size without mounting rings, and the only access from above is through the holes already cut. Mention this in the order from the start.
What usually goes wrong
- 12 V LED bulbs on an old halogen transformer. Flicker is built into the setup.
- Rings with no holders, because “I thought they were in the box”. Fitting day ends with a trip to the shop.
- Loose wires lying above the ceiling with no junction box or connectors.
- Ordinary downlights in the shower zone.
Kanlux downlight installation: getting ready
Before ordering anything, pull out one old light and photograph what’s behind it: wires, transformer, holder. With that photo, describe the job in the app: how many lights, what ceiling, replacement or new holes.
Offers come from electricians who do this work in Warsaw, each with their own price. You compare them with ratings and reviews, and the profile shows whether their electrical permits are verified. Once you choose, the electrician gets your number and address. You pay him directly, and he issues the invoice.
Rings, holders, bulbs and any drivers are yours to buy, and taking away the old transformers is extra. The electrician answers for his own work and redoes it if needed. A scorched ceiling or old cable in the slab is not on him.
Before pulling out any light, switch off the breaker and check for voltage with a tester.
