Recessed or surface-mounted
Recessed downlights need space above the ceiling. A hole is cut in the plasterboard, the light holds on spring clips, and the cable runs through the void above. A concrete slab has no such void, so an ordinary downlight has nowhere to go.
For ceilings with no drop, Eglo has surface-mounted models: cylinders and spots screwed to the surface, bars with several spotlights, single spots on a canopy. They look different, but nobody has to build a new ceiling.
Eglo downlights are often decorative, with metal or glass parts. They can be heavier than plain rings, so for recessed ones it’s worth checking the board isn’t already weakened by old holes.
What it costs and how to book: light fitting in Warsaw.
Getting power to every point
This is the main part of the job and the one most often underestimated. In a suspended ceiling, the cable is pulled above the board from light to light. In concrete there are three routes: chases cut into the slab, cable in surface trunking, or a new suspended ceiling. Each is a different scope, and chases also mean filling and repainting.
If there’s a single outlet from an old ceiling lamp and you want six lights, a spotlight bar fed from that one point is often the simplest answer. New outlets are a separate job, and it’s better to know that before buying the lights.
What spoils the result
- Lights bought before anyone checked the ceiling. Recessed ones won’t go into concrete, and returns aren’t always possible.
- Cable in chases with no junction boxes at the joints. If something burns out, finding it means opening the ceiling.
- Surface spots aimed straight at your eyes instead of a wall or worktop.
- Fittings over the bath without the right IP rating.
Eglo downlight installation: getting ready
- Knock on the ceiling, or ask the building management what the slab is.
- Mark on a photo where the lights should go and where power comes from now.
- Decide whether chasing, filling and painting are part of the same job.
- Buy bulbs from one range with the same colour temperature. Mixed ones look like random patches on the ceiling.
Ordering in the app
Add a description in the app, photos of the ceiling and the name or link of the lights. Offers come from tradespeople in Warsaw, each with their own price, visible before you choose. You compare prices, ratings and reviews and pick one. The profile shows whether his electrical permits are verified.
He gets your phone number and address once chosen, you pay him directly, and he issues the invoice. Lights, cable and materials for the chases are extra, and so is removing rubble. The electrician answers for his own work and redoes it if needed, but not for cracks in an old slab.
Before drilling or connecting anything: breaker off, and a tester showing no voltage.
