How a draught-proof joint is built
A good fitting joint works in three layers. In the middle is expanding foam, which does the insulating. On the room side it’s covered against vapour from the flat, because moisture that settles in the foam stops it insulating. On the outside the joint is protected from rain and sun, but in a way that still lets the foam dry outwards. Skip a layer and the joint slowly gets wet and crumbles.
Tytan is a Polish brand of building chemicals: foams, sealants and adhesives, with a separate professional line that installers use. The materials aren’t the hard part; putting them in properly is. A tradesperson takes off the reveal or part of it, clears out the old crumbled foam, refills the joint and seals it on both sides.

The dark corner on the reveal
Mould in the corner of the reveal is often a cold bridge: the joint has gone cold and moisture from the air condenses on the coldest spot. You can wash the patch off, but it comes back until the joint is redone. Afterwards the reveal needs levelling and painting, which is a separate part of the job.
Tytan window sealing: common mistakes
- Spraying new foam over old. It won’t bond to dusty crumbs and comes away.
- Trimming foam flush and leaving it bare outside. Within a season it yellows and falls apart.
- Running silicone round the inside and calling it sealed. Vapour from the flat still finds a way in.
- Foaming in frost with a product not meant for it. The foam barely expands and never gets strong.
Tytan window sealing: getting ready
- Note which windows are draughty along the frame and where corners go dark.
- Photograph the reveals from inside and, if you can see it, the joint outside.
- Clear the sill and the area by the window: taking off a reveal is dusty, so cover furniture.
Booking it
Describe the problem in the app and add photos of the reveals. Tradespeople send offers with their own price, and it’s worth asking whether restoring the reveal is included. Pick one by rating and reviews; phone and address are shared after you choose. You pay the tradesperson directly and they issue the invoice. Foam, sealants and tapes are extra, and so is taking away the rubbish.
Order in the app
Describe the job, add photos and the address. Tradespeople send their own prices and dates, and you pick one of the offers.
Open the appThe tradesperson answers for their own joint and will redo it if it opens up. Damp walls, cracked masonry and a crooked frame aren’t on them.
