TV bracket mounting: what the job involves
A wall-mounted TV frees up the cabinet, looks lighter and will not topple when children play. To hold safely, the bracket must match the TV’s VESA hole pattern and the plugs must suit the wall: concrete, brick and plasterboard each need different fixings.
The price is per TV. Screen size, bracket type and whether the cables are hidden all affect it.
What the installation covers
- setting the height so the centre of the screen is at seated eye level;
- checking the wall for cables with a detector;
- fixing the bracket with plugs suited to the wall;
- hanging and levelling the TV;
- connecting the cables and checking the picture.
Hiding the cables
Power and HDMI cables can go into surface trunking or inside the wall if its construction allows. Running power inside the wall is electrical work, done with the circuit switched off. Either option can be added to the request.
What to prepare
The TV, the bracket with its fixings and the cables. Give the screen size, bracket type and wall type in the request and add a photo of the spot. If you do not have a bracket yet, check the VESA pattern in the TV manual.
Common questions
Can a large TV go on plasterboard?
Yes, with the right cavity anchors or fixing to the stud. The tradesperson will judge from a photo.
Does a tilting bracket need a different fixing?
Moving brackets put more load on the wall, so they need a stronger fixing.
Will the tradesperson set up the TV?
They can, as a separate item in the same request.
