Siemens under a worktop or by the bath
The basics are the same for any washer. Transit bolts come out before the first wash and caps go in the holes. The feet get set with a spirit level. The inlet hose screws onto a threaded valve, and the drain goes into a trap with a spigot or into the waste pipe at the right height.
A kitchen adds three things. The trap: if a dishwasher already sits next door, you need a trap with two spigots, not a hose pushed into the sink drain. The valve: it belongs in the next cabinet, so you can shut it without pulling the washer out. And room for the hoses at the back, because a hose pinched under the worktop wears through after a year of vibration.
Height matters too. A freestanding machine under a worktop needs a few millimetres of clearance on top, since it shifts a little on the spin anyway.
The socket should be its own, and earthed. A washer and a dishwasher sharing one extension lead is how you get a tripped breaker or a melted plug.

Mistakes that show up later
- Drain hose shoved into the sink outlet without a spigot. At the first blockage the water backs up into the washer or the cabinet.
- Machine pushed flat against the wall. Hoses kink and the vibration goes into the units.
- Valve hidden behind the washer. Every drip means dragging it out.
- Feet wound all the way out to level a sloping floor. The machine loses its footing.
Before the visit
- Measure the gap: width, depth and height under the worktop.
- Check whether the sink trap has a free spigot.
- Photograph the space, the valve and the socket, and attach the pictures to the order.
- If the drain needs rework or a valve has to go in, say so up front. That’s separate work, and materials are billed on top of labour.
Water and power in one cabinet: breaker off before the socket, water off before the valve.
Two steps to a tradesperson
In the app, describe where the Siemens will go and what’s already there, add photos and post the job. Tradespeople reply with a price and a date. You compare bids, ratings and reviews, choose one, and only then do contact details open up.
You pay him directly and he issues the invoice. If his connection starts leaking, he redoes his own work. Old pipes in the wall and hidden faults in the plumbing are a different story.
