How a Porta leaf is trimmed
Porta doors, like most interior doors, have a light core inside and a frame of solid material around the edge. The bottom rail of that frame isn’t very tall, so the leaf can only be shortened as long as the cut doesn’t go right through it. If the height difference is bigger, the tradesperson glues in a new rail or suggests another fix. That can only be judged on site, with the leaf off.
The cut is made with a saw on a guide rail. The line is taped first so the finish doesn’t chip. The fresh edge then has to be sealed: in a bathroom or kitchen, bare board soaks up moisture and swells from the bottom.
Before anything gets cut, check the hinges. If the door has only dropped, an adjustment sometimes does the job and far less has to come off than it seemed. There’s more on the job itself in the article on door trimming in Warsaw.

What spoils the result
- Cutting without tape or a guide rail. The Porta finish tears easily at the edge and a chip is there for good.
- Measuring in one spot. The floor under a door is rarely level, so the gap is checked along the whole swing.
- Taking too much off in one go. You can’t glue it back, and a cut-through rail exposes the core.
- Leaving the edge bare in a bathroom.
- Trimming before the rug goes down, if the rug will sit in the door’s path. The top layer is what counts.
Before the visit
- Finish the floor completely, including skirting and thresholds.
- Decide whether the bathroom door should get a larger gap for ventilation.
- Take a photo of the bottom of the door and the floor beneath it.
- Clear a space for cutting: the balcony or an empty room.

Open the appTape and small bits for sealing the edge are usually in the labour price; rubbish removal is extra. Whoever trimmed the door answers for that work and redoes it if needed. An uneven screed or hidden defects in the leaf are not on him.
