Byron: what to check before calling anyone
Byron is mostly known for wireless doorbells: a battery push button by the door and a receiver inside. If a new set stays silent, check two things first. Is there a battery in the button, and has the protective tab been pulled off it? And has the button been paired with the receiver? In many sets you do that by following the manual; it doesn’t happen on its own.
The second usual suspect is range. Concrete, a metal door and a couple of walls in the way can shorten it. Move the receiver closer to the door or into another socket and see if anything changes. If it does, the problem is distance, not a broken unit.
With a wired bell it becomes an electrical job. Silence can come from a broken wire, a corroded contact in the button, or a transformer in the fuse box that has stopped putting out voltage. That needs measuring.
Replacing beats repairing when the button has cracked and let water in, or when the old bell is so old that nobody hunts for parts any more. Then the tradesperson will usually suggest a new set rather than patching.

Common traps
- A button that was never paired. Everything’s new and working, it just isn’t talking to each other.
- A cheap, weak battery in the button. The range drops week by week.
- A receiver hidden behind the fridge or in a metal cabinet. The signal bounces and gets lost.
- A wired bell swapped for wireless without disconnecting the old transformer. It stays live even though nothing uses it.
What to do before you post the job
- Change the battery in the button and try pairing it once more.
- Photograph the button, the receiver and the spot where the old bell hung.
- Find out whether the bell was wired or battery-powered.
- Dig out the box or the Byron model name.
How to book a repair or fitting
