How it works
- You explain the issue — ice, weak cooling, fan noise.
- The technician arrives with the heater.
- Power off, defrost the freezer.
- Take off the inner panel — access the evaporator and heater.
- Measure the heater with a multimeter — open circuit or ground fault.
- Fit a new heater, and check the defrost thermostat and thermal fuse as well.
- Put everything back together, switch on. After a defrost cycle (8–12 hrs) — no ice.
Mistakes
- Defrosting by hand every 2 weeks instead of fixing the fault.
- Mixing it up with a refrigerant leak — with a leak there is no frost, with heater failure there is heavy ice.
- Skipping the defrost thermostat check.
