What matters with a Franke sink
Franke is a Swiss brand with sinks in stainless steel and in granite composite. Most models are inset: the rim sits on the worktop and clips underneath pull it down tight. A cut-out template usually comes in the box, and that is where the job starts, not with a tape measure.
A composite sink is heavier than a steel one and does not forgive a twisted base. If the worktop sags under it or the cabinet is out of level, the corners take the strain. So before cutting, a good fitter checks the level and how the worktop is fixed to the units.
The cut edge of a chipboard worktop has to be sealed. Bare chipboard soaks up water, and within a year the board around the sink swells. Easy to skip, expensive once skipped.
Under the sink go the trap, the overflow and, if you have one, a branch for the dishwasher. Buy the waste kit for your model; it is often in the box, but not always.

Where installs go wrong
- Cutting to the old sink’s size by eye instead of using the maker’s template.
- No sealant on the cut edge or under the rim.
- Clips tightened unevenly, leaving a gap on one side.
- A trap fitted without checking the fall, so water sits and starts to smell.
- Fitting the tap after the sink in a cramped cabinet, when it is far easier to mount it on the sink first.
Before the fitter comes
- The worktop is fixed and the sink cabinet is empty.
- Sink, tap and trap are bought and nearby, with the template.
- If the old sink is coming out, make space for it.
- Photograph the pipes under the sink and the worktop from above.
The water goes off before any work starts. If the valves under the sink do not hold, mention it in the order.
